About National Medical Care

National Medical Care is seeking an Infection Control Specialist to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is a full-time position for a trained professional who will play a key role in developing, implementing, and evaluating the multidisciplinary Infection Control Program across NMC Hospitals and Clinics.

Role Summary

The Infection Control Specialist serves as a primary resource for all hospital staff, including administrative, clinical, and support personnel, on matters related to infection control. The role involves ensuring high-quality medical treatment and patient care through adherence to infection control practices and continuous surveillance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular rounds across all hospital departments to monitor and discuss infection control practices with staff.
  • Collect and maintain records of data on nosocomial infections from all hospital departments.
  • Perform continuous surveillance to identify sources of infection for prevention.
  • Assist in taking regular swabs in high-risk areas of the hospital.
  • Investigate incidences of nosocomial infections, generate reports, and forward copies to the Infection Control Supervisor and Chief of Medical Staff.
  • Implement educational programs to equip staff with knowledge and skills in infection control practices and preventive measures.
  • Participate in and assist with the organization of scheduled hospital Infection Control Committee meetings.
  • Report any obstacles to the effective implementation of infection control practices.
  • Collaborate with CSSD staff on all sterilization and infection control matters.
  • Ensure staff are free from infectious diseases.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives, in-service education programs, and unit meetings.
  • Initiate emergency, safety, and fire safety measures as needed.
  • Assist in conducting training sessions to ensure consistent implementation of infection control practices.
  • Maintain compliance with Saudi Arabian standards and regulatory bodies such as JCI and CBAHI, promoting best practices.
  • Assist with licensing and accreditation survey preparation.
  • Recommend and evaluate infection control procedures and policies within the hospital.

Patient and Family Education

  • Educate patients and families according to their needs, implementing the full role regarding the patient and family education process as outlined in policy and procedure, including documentation in medical records.
  • Involve patients and families in the plan of care, respecting their goals and choices.
  • Provide health promotion and teaching using methods appropriate to the patient's developmental level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, language preference, culture, and situation.
  • Allocate necessary time to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient education, with appropriate documentation.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Candidates should possess 2-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in infection control practices and preventive measures.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
