This role is central to designing, building, and maintaining the integration layer that connects a digital Residents and Tenants Portal with various third-party and enterprise systems. The successful candidate will develop secure and reliable APIs and middleware to enable key platform capabilities, including authentication, e-signature, payments, access control, CRM integrations, and notifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and integrations with third-party and enterprise systems.
  • Integrate with identity and authentication providers to support SSO, 2FA, password reset, and session management.
  • Develop integrations with e-signature platforms such as DocuSign or similar solutions for contract workflows.
  • Integrate with CRM and leasing systems to synchronize unit listings, inquiries, leads, offers, and other relevant data.
  • Develop integrations with access-control systems for access cards, visitor codes, and vehicle registration.
  • Support payment and invoicing integrations, including invoice generation triggers, proof-of-payment workflows, and payment-status synchronization.
  • Integrate with email and SMS notification gateways for alerts, confirmations, and renewal notifications.
  • Integrate external data feeds, such as weather and events APIs, where required.
  • Build middleware and orchestration logic to keep data and application states synchronized across multiple systems.
  • Define and maintain API contracts using OpenAPI/Swagger.
  • Implement secure authentication and authorization mechanisms using OAuth2, OIDC, and JWT.
  • Design robust error-handling, retry, and recovery strategies for integrations.
  • Implement webhook and event-driven handlers for asynchronous workflows.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, client IT teams, and third-party vendors to manage integration environments, credentials, and API access.
  • Support the promotion of integrations from sandbox/testing environments to production.
  • Develop integration, API, and contract tests and support QA and UAT activities.
  • Monitor API performance, logs, and error rates and troubleshoot integration issues during production and hypercare periods.
  • Maintain technical documentation, integration architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks.
  • Collaborate with developers, QA engineers, product teams, and external vendors to ensure successful delivery of integration-dependent features.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • 4+ years of experience in API development, backend development, or integration engineering.
  • Strong hands-on experience building and consuming REST/JSON APIs in production environments.
  • Solid understanding of OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, and webhook-based architectures.
  • Experience integrating with at least one e-signature platform such as DocuSign, Adobe Sign, or a similar solution.
  • Hands-on experience with SSO and identity providers such as Azure AD, Okta, Auth0, or similar.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one backend technology such as ****, .NET, or Java.
  • Experience working with API gateways, middleware, message queues, or iPaaS solutions.
  • Experience with API testing tools such as Postman/Newman.
  • Strong understanding of API security best practices, including rate limiting, input validation, authentication/authorization, and secrets management.
  • Experience designing integrations and translating business requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria into technical solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding of integration testing and production support practices.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with access-control or physical-security system APIs, such as Genetec, Lenel, or similar.
  • Experience integrating with real-estate or leasing CRM platforms such as Yardi, MRI, Salesforce, or Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Experience with Azure API Management, MuleSoft, or similar API management/integration platforms.
  • Experience working with event-driven architectures and message brokers.
  • Experience working in enterprise integration or digital transformation projects.

Indicators of Success

  • All required third-party and enterprise integrations are delivered, tested, and successfully pass UAT.
  • APIs and integrations are secure, reliable, and scalable.
  • Integration-related issues are identified and resolved within agreed SLAs.
  • API and integration documentation is complete and clear enough to support the client's internal teams after handover.
  • Smooth collaboration with client IT teams, vendors, developers, QA, and other stakeholders throughout implementation and production support.
