About the Role

King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital (KAAUH) in Riyadh is seeking a full-time Ophthalmology Consultant specializing in Surgical Retina. This role involves providing comprehensive vitreoretinal services and contributing to the hospital's mission, vision, and values. The consultant will deliver medical services for patient management within their specialty and privileges, while also contributing to administration, education, and research.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide patient care at a specialist level, including consultation, follow-up, procedures, and on-call duties, across various hospital settings.
• Practice patient care in accordance with up-to-date best practices and scientific evidence.
• Adhere to KAAUH quality improvement initiatives and practices, ensuring a safe healing environment and compliance with accreditation requirements.
• Empower patients and their families as active partners in their health and wellness.
• Demonstrate accountability, appropriate resource utilization, and focus on efficient patient care processes.
• Supervise and contribute to the professional development of team members, including residents, assistant consultants, and associate consultants, providing periodic performance evaluations.

Specific Vitreoretinal Services

• Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with complex retinal and vitreoretinal disorders.
• Perform vitreoretinal surgical procedures and other appropriate retinal interventions.
• Evaluate and manage retinal emergencies and complex postoperative cases.
• Provide consultation for patients referred with challenging retinal conditions.
• Manage Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) patients, including screening, diagnosis, follow-up, and treatment.
• Participate in multidisciplinary patient care and clinical decision-making.
• Maintain high standards of patient safety, clinical governance, and evidence-based practice.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Undertake administrative duties related to patient care, such as developing Clinical Management Guidelines, Clinical Pathways, and Evidence-Based Best Practices.
• Contribute to quality assurance and improvement through audits, peer reviews, and Morbidity & Mortality rounds.
• Actively contribute to KAAUH partnership opportunities and collaborations.
• Fulfill administrative requirements for the development of their division, department, or hospital, including procurement, recruitment, policy development, and committee participation.

Education and Research Contributions

• Participate in general undergraduate and post-graduate teaching activities.
• Provide regular teaching to all team members appropriate to their level.
• Participate in departmental educational activities such as Grand Rounds, Journal Club, and daily morning meetings.
• Engage in continuing professional development events and ensure CME recertification requirements are met.
• Possess the necessary knowledge to conduct scientific research and participate in departmental/hospital research activities, working towards scientific publications.
