About the Role

King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Medina is seeking an Assistant Consultant for General Oncology Surgery. This full-time role involves the diagnosis and treatment of medical diseases and conditions, as well as providing medical care in General and Oncology Surgery under the supervision of a Consultant. The Assistant Consultant will operate within the framework of medical staff bylaws, rules, regulations, and hospital policies and procedures, with an expected experience range of 2-5 years.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide patient care management, including diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, under the Consultant's supervision and in accordance with hospital medical care standards.
• Participate in the on-call schedule as assigned by the Head Section, providing coverage during staff leave and supervising residents, approving admissions after discussion with the Consultant on call.
• Assist the Consultant in the operating room.
• Assume responsibility for patients under care, coordinating with support services and medical specializations to ensure timely and appropriate medical attention.
• Comply with all hospital standards and policies related to patient acceptance, eligibility, admission, daily care, operating room procedures, outpatient practice, and discharge.
• Facilitate early patient discharge, prepare summaries and operative notes promptly, and accurately record morbidity and mortality events.
• Conduct ward rounds, reassess inpatients, document findings, ensure patient preparation for procedures/surgery, and obtain informed consent.
• Attend specialty, subspecialty, and outpatient clinics, day surgical units, day medical units, special procedures, and treatment areas with the Consultant.
• Supervise and educate junior staff on patient management, particularly in General and Oncology Surgery.
• Guide and actively participate in the training of Residents, Fellows, Assistant Consultants, and Junior Staff.
• Stay updated on the latest techniques and developments in General and Oncology Surgery.
• Actively participate in departmental academic/educational activities and training programs.
• Undertake administrative duties assigned by the Head Section or Chairman of the Department.
• Participate in mandatory departmental activities and serve on hospital committees as required.
• Assist in developing and implementing techniques to maximize resource utilization within the department and hospital.
• Adhere to current hospital and medical staff bylaws, rules, regulations, and policies.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited medical school in good standing.
• Board certification in Surgery from North America, Europe, or an equivalent body.
• Completion of training in a recognized training program.
• Certification as determined by the appropriate certifying authorities in the country where training was completed.

Professional Development

The Assistant Consultant is expected to actively engage in research and participate in the section’s regular teaching seminars for fellows and residents, as well as journal clubs. Participation in self and hospital quality improvement plans is preferred, alongside continuous education, training, and development.

This is a full-time position at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Medina. The role requires adherence to all hospital-related policies and procedures, working collaboratively within a medical team environment.
