About the Role

Bupa Arabia is seeking a Registrar in Ophthalmology to join their team in Riyadh. This full-time position involves providing high-quality, patient-centered ophthalmology consultations, assessments, diagnoses, and clinical management of ophthalmic conditions under the supervision of an Ophthalmology Consultant. The role supports outpatient and virtual ophthalmology services, ensuring care is delivered within the approved scope of practice and adheres to evidence-based standards.

Clinical Responsibilities

The Registrar will assess, diagnose, and manage common ophthalmic conditions within a supervised practice framework. This includes performing ophthalmic examinations such as slit-lamp assessment, fundoscopy, visual acuity measurement, and intraocular pressure testing. The role also involves requesting and interpreting ophthalmic investigations like OCT and visual fields, and promptly escalating complex or urgent cases to the supervising Consultant. Accurate and timely clinical documentation in the EHR system is essential.

Patient Care and Procedures

The Registrar will perform ophthalmic procedures within approved clinical privileges, assisting in minor procedures, laser clinics, and intravitreal injection services as required. Providing structured follow-up care and patient counseling on treatment plans and medications is a key aspect of the role. Participation in telemedicine and virtual ophthalmology service delivery is also expected.

Quality and Safety Standards

Adherence to clinical guidelines, patient safety standards, and institutional policies is paramount. The Registrar will actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and incident reporting. Ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, including CBAHI and JCI, and maintaining infection prevention and medication safety standards are critical components of this role.

Collaboration and Professional Development

Effective collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams is required for patient management, referrals, and care planning. This includes clear communication with referring physicians, allied health staff, and nursing teams, as well as efficient coordination of ophthalmology referrals and care transitions. The role also involves participation in CME activities, departmental teaching sessions, and clinical meetings, alongside maintaining an updated training portfolio and developing clinical competencies.

Professional Conduct

Maintaining professionalism, ethical conduct, and patient confidentiality at all times is expected. The Registrar must work within the approved scope of supervised practice and comply with institutional policies, SCFHS regulations, and clinical governance requirements. Timely completion of all mandatory compliance, credentialing, and training requirements is also necessary.
