Position Overview
BAE Systems Saudi Arabia is seeking a Helmet Mounted Symbology System (HMSS) Technician for a full-time role based in Taif. This position requires 5-10 years of relevant experience and is integral to supporting Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) Typhoon operations across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Role Purpose and Company Context
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure that all personnel engaged in activities within its Area of Responsibility adhere to effective Safety, SHE, and Quality Assurance standards, including compliance with all related regulations, policies, and procedures. BAE Systems operates as the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor, providing equipment, support, and training to Saudi Arabia under Government-to-Government arrangements. The company is committed to supporting the Saudi Arabian National Agenda, including Saudisation and the development of Saudi National capability through partner companies, reinforcing industrialisation and partnerships.
Core Responsibilities
- Deliver customer requirements to sustain and build aircrew relationships.
- Attend meetings with key stakeholders to provide information on HMSS Bay performance.
- Assist in generating reports related to the overall performance of the HMSS Bay.
- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs of HMSS in accordance with Approved Technical Data and procedures.
- Support the Saudisation process through On-the-Job Training (OJT).
- Adhere to approved Maintenance data and highlight any anomalies.
- Complete other reasonable duties or requests from Line Management.
- Work as an effective team member, providing guidance and proactively seeking tasks.
- Follow local work processes, highlighting inconsistencies or improvements to Line Managers.
- Maintain awareness of Continuing Airworthiness (CA) terminology and principles, including having received a CA Awareness brief.
Operational Accountabilities
- Deliver and manage HMSS capabilities supporting RSAF Typhoon operations across KSA.
- Apply principles of Continuing Airworthiness to the maintenance area, including terminology.
- Understand the limitations of personal authorisations.
- Be familiar with how authorisations, competence, and currency impact maintenance task completion.
- Report all accidents and incidents in a controlled and confidential manner.
- Ensure correct completion and recording of all engineering practices, aligning with 2nd & 3rd signature responsibilities.
- Prioritise tasks to prevent loss in flying capability.
- Segregate and control all materials, regardless of serviceability state, including tagging.
- Compile and control job cards, demonstrating working knowledge of 1st & 2nd signature responsibilities.
- Ensure strict adherence to correct engineering practices and usage of approved data.
- Generate statistics related to the overall performance and usage of HMSS.
- Control of Supply & POL systems, including relevant document control.
- Maintain working knowledge of Tool Control, ensuring correct procedures are always in place.
- Understand the maintenance planning philosophy, its terms, and its relation to the role.
- Possess detailed knowledge of the Aircrew Assisted Escape System (AAES) and safety requirements for cockpit entry/exit.
- Be aware of the training for AAES Typhoon authorisation.
Qualifications and Essential Experience
- Extensive proven experience in Aircrew Life Support Equipment & HMSS, serving on an operational military flying unit (Typhoon preferred).
- A recognised qualification to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC level in a relevant technical discipline, a technical apprenticeship, or an equivalent technical qualification acceptable to M&CA.
- Thorough working knowledge of HMSS maintenance, fault finding, and fitting procedures.
- Practical experience working on HMSS and associated test equipment.
- Broad experience in coaching and mentoring techniques to supervise and develop others through a training evaluation strategy.
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing customer requirements.
- Understanding of RAF and/or RSAF engineering operating procedures.
- Thorough working knowledge of aircraft Life Support Fast Jet Equipment.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and proven ability to supervise engineering personnel at all levels.
- Hold 2nd signature authorisation.
- Successful candidates (Saudi or Expatriate) must obtain and maintain Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) membership at the appropriate level prior to commencing employment in KSA.
