About the ES&H Advisor / Occupational Hygienist Role

Bechtel Corporation is seeking an experienced ES&H Advisor / Occupational Hygienist for the Ar Rjum Project in Saudi Arabia. This full-time position involves establishing and managing industrial hygiene processes to minimize potential adverse health impacts on employees. The role requires a proactive approach to hazard identification, risk assessment, and the implementation of effective control measures within a large-scale project environment.

Project Context

The Ar Rjum Project is a greenfield gold mining operation located in the Central Arabian Gold Region, approximately 200 km northeast of Taif and towards Riyadh. The project encompasses open pit mining, a processing plant, tailings management facilities, and supporting infrastructure, including accommodation villages. The role will contribute to ensuring a safe and healthy working environment across all project phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Facilitate the execution of the Industrial Hygiene (IH) component within the Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) Program, addressing both technical and administrative aspects.
• Assist in the preparation and implementation of the Safety and Health Management Plan, associated procedures, and training programs.
• Provide input to Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Subcontracts, and Commissioning groups on IH issues, risks, and mitigation techniques.
• Interpret and integrate IH requirements into proposals, planning documents, risk assessments, and ESH program execution.
• Conduct research on moderately complex issues and regulatory requirements, perform studies and risk assessments, and prepare documentation and reports.
• Offer support and guidance for IH studies, risk assessments, and program reviews and audits.
• Assist in establishing emergency preparedness plans and conducting incident investigations.
• Participate in or lead meetings with customers, team members, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
• Conduct ESH inspections and IH monitoring and sampling to identify hazards, evaluate controls, and assess compliance.
• Support bid proposals by providing documentation, estimates, and ensuring compliance with IH requirements.
• Maintain working relationships with clients, team leaders, and other ES&H team members.
• Develop and maintain the project Occupational Health Program (OHP), adapting it through project stages.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in an industrial health or hygiene-related discipline. The role requires 8-10 years of relevant experience, or alternatively, 12-14 years of relevant work experience. Experience in working in complex situations and remote locations is essential. Familiarity with construction planning through project stages (feasibility, execution, close-out) is also required.
