About the Role

NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC) is seeking a Process Safety Lead Engineer to join its Operations team in Oxagon, Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role is central to NGHC's safety culture, focusing on managing the inherent hazards of green hydrogen and ammonia within the plant's operational complexities. The Lead Engineer will be responsible for spearheading all safety initiatives related to industrial processes, applying engineering principles across design, construction, operation, and maintenance to develop, implement, and maintain the company's Process Safety Management System.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and provide process safety services during the design and construction phases of all NEOM Green Hydrogen Company projects, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and industry safety standards.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for hydrogen and ammonia safety chemistry, including embrittlement, cryogenic storage, and toxicity dispersion.
  • Provide process safety training for project engineers, asset and reliability engineers, and integrated management facilitators.
  • Own the Management of Change (MOC) process for process safety and ensure seamless safety transitions.
  • Act as the Technical Authority for Technical Safety for both Project and Operations, establishing and maintaining technical safety standards, operating procedures, and systems.
  • Develop and conduct company process safety standards, tools, programs, training, and work processes, identifying and implementing continuous improvement efforts.
  • Lead and/or participate in Process Hazard Reviews, Gas Dispersion Modelling, Hazardous Area Classification, and technical risk assessments.
  • Provide process safety consulting support and recommend optimal solutions to site teams to ensure compliance with Company standards and policies.
  • Assist in interpreting national and local process safety regulatory requirements for Saudi Arabia and support regulatory and permitting processes.
  • Lead and support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for process safety, applying Human Performance principles.
  • Lead, facilitate, and train staff on HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, and Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA).
  • Function as an industry liaison for best practices in process safety, including engagement with the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) and The Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center.
  • Oversee advanced consequence modeling for fire, explosion, and toxic gas release scenarios.
  • Collaborate with control systems and instrument engineers to manage the Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) lifecycle and ensure Safety Integrity Levels (SILs) meet targets.
  • Conduct dangerous goods assessments and compliance checks to support permitting or licensing requirements.

People Management

This role involves managing contractors who provide project, engineering, and construction services.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with experience in Process and Process Safety Engineering.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Training or certification from the Mary Kay O'Connor Process Safety Center (MKOPSC).

Work Environment

This full-time position is based in Neom, Oxagon, Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, and requires close collaboration with NGHC project and Operations & Maintenance teams.
