Role Overview: Golf Course Greenskeeper

The Golf Course Greenskeeper is an essential member of the golf course maintenance team. This role is responsible for preserving the visual appeal and ensuring excellent playable conditions across the greens, fairways, tees, and bunkers. The position combines manual labor, landscape care, and the operation of specialized turf machinery to deliver a premier experience for golfers.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate walk-behind and ride-on mowers to precisely cut greens, fairways, tees, aprons, and rough areas according to established course standards.
• Perform course setup tasks, including changing hole locations on greens, moving tee markers to manage turf wear, emptying course trash bins, and filling ball washers.
• Maintain sand bunkers by raking them (manually or mechanically) to ensure level surfaces, trimming bunker edges, and clearing debris.
• Execute property landscaping duties such as trimming hedges, clearing morning dew or fallen leaves, planting flowers, and managing weeds or brush around the course.
• Provide irrigation support by monitoring turf moisture, assisting with hand-watering dry patches, and reporting or helping to repair broken irrigation lines.
• Assist in turf renovation efforts, including laying sod, spreading seed, aerating soil, and fixing divots or ball marks on the course.
• Conduct basic cleaning, safety checks, and routine upkeep on tools and turf machinery before and after use.

Qualifications and Experience

• Previous experience in landscaping, farming, or groundskeeping is preferred but not strictly required, as on-the-job training will be provided.
• A valid driver’s license is typically required for operating utility vehicles on the property.
• Ability to safely operate utility vehicles (golf carts), hand tools, power tools, and motorized lawn machinery.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role requires significant physical stamina, including the ability to perform heavy manual labor, lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg), and walk or stand for extended periods in various weather conditions such as heat, rain, and cold. Candidates must have schedule flexibility to accommodate early morning shifts, typically starting at 5:00 AM or 6:00 AM, and mandatory rotating weekend shifts.
