The Role of Spanish Teacher

SEK International School - Turtle Bay is seeking a qualified Spanish Teacher. This role involves working in an international environment and teaching students across various educational stages. The position requires a professional who supports educational innovation and student development.

Key Duties and Tasks

• Plan and deliver Spanish lessons tailored to students' ages, learning needs, and language proficiency levels.
• Teach Spanish across educational stages, including Kindergarten (KG), Primary, and the Middle Years Programme (MYP).
• Develop students' speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through communicative and culturally relevant learning experiences.
• Design student-centred activities that promote curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning.
• Apply differentiated teaching strategies for native speakers, heritage speakers, and students learning Spanish as an additional language.
• Utilize formative and summative assessment to monitor progress, provide feedback, and adjust teaching methods.
• Contribute to curriculum planning, collaborative teaching, and the ongoing development of the Spanish language programme.
• Collaborate with colleagues, students, and families to support academic progress, wellbeing, and a positive learning environment.
• Participate in the wider school community and contribute to a culture of collaboration and professional growth.

Qualifications and Experience

• Academic Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature, Hispanic Studies, Spanish Philology, Modern Languages with a specialization in Spanish, Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE), Language Education, Primary Education, or a closely related discipline from a recognized institution.
• Professional Teaching Qualification: A recognized professional teaching qualification appropriate for the position and assigned educational stages (*, Bachelor’s degree in Education, PGCE, or equivalent national teaching qualification). Candidates with a subject-specific undergraduate degree must demonstrate appropriate professional teaching preparation.
• Teaching Experience: Demonstrable experience teaching Spanish in a school environment, ideally within an international or bilingual school. Experience teaching across multiple educational stages, including Kindergarten (KG), Primary, and the Middle Years Programme (MYP), is preferred.
• IB Expertise: Previous experience in an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School is desirable, particularly direct teaching experience within the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and/or MYP. A sound understanding of inquiry-based learning, differentiated instruction, language acquisition, and student-centred pedagogical approaches is required.
• Professional Development: Relevant IB professional development, workshops, or training certificates are considered an advantage.
• Documentation: All qualifications must be verifiable. Candidates must provide degree certificates, academic transcripts, and evidence of professional teaching qualifications, along with any required authentication or equivalency documentation.

Work Authorization and Availability

Candidates currently based in Saudi Arabia or the wider Gulf region with valid work authorization for Saudi Arabia will be given preference. Priority will be given to candidates available to join at short notice with existing work authorization. All appointments are subject to verification of qualifications and compliance with Saudi Arabian employment and immigration regulations.
