About the Role

Afaq - Warehouse Branch is seeking an experienced Area Manager for Amazon Now to lead last-mile operations in Saudi Arabia. This full-time position is based in Jeddah and Makkah, Makkah Province, Saudi Arabia. The role focuses on designing and launching new business models within the Ultra Fast Grocery sector across AMET, specifically for Amazon Now (15-minute delivery).

Role Overview

The Area Manager will be responsible for overseeing last-mile operations through a multi-channel approach, including Delivery Service Partners and third-party carriers. This position requires a self-starter with a hands-on approach to managing a complex last-mile network. The successful candidate will lead the operations organization for multiple sites/dark stores, managing a team of Area Managers and driving innovation and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive innovation, test new ideas, and ensure adherence to best practices in safety, acting as a link between local operations and country business teams.
• Focus on Safety, People, Quality, Customer Experience/Speed, Productivity, Costs, and Environment.
• Support project execution across various organizational functions.
• Resolve issues during discussions between different functions.
• Hold respective functions accountable for their deliverables.
• Partner with other countries to implement and share best practices.
• Maintain Health and Safety standards within the remit area and promote a safety culture on-site.
• Provide operational leadership by measuring performance, offering feedback, and supporting development.
• Drive continuous improvement projects to optimize operations, enhance productivity, and reduce costs.
• Engage in strategic planning for the next three, six, and twelve months, with emphasis on peak-season planning.
• Prepare and articulate leadership updates, MBRs, and QBRs.
• Establish objectives and metrics for safety, quality, cost, productivity, and customer experience.
• Provide the team with necessary tools for success and drive productivity improvements through data-driven decisions.
• Promote a culture of safety and wellbeing.
• Analyze and implement corrective actions to ensure consistent quality and productivity across all shifts.
• Lead and support a team, manage administrative tasks, and foster a strong team culture.
• Analyze performance and suggest process improvements to optimize work and enhance customer service.
• Collaborate with other managers to standardize shift processes.

Qualifications and Requirements

• 5-10 years of experience in operations management, preferably in last-mile logistics or a similar fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated experience in leading large, complex last-mile networks.
• Understanding of last-mile technology.
• Strong project management skills.
• Proven ability in internal and external stakeholder management.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to interface and drive results with various functional teams including finance, DEX, business, HR, operations, tech/product, projects, and procurement.
• Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and maintaining an innovative approach.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Jeddah and Makkah, Saudi Arabia, requiring leadership across multiple sites/dark stores. The role involves working within a newly formed organization focused on expanding customer bases and launching new business models.
