About the Role

Marriott International is seeking a dedicated Engineer Technician (Kitchen) to join our team in Makkah. This full-time position is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks across the property, with a particular focus on kitchen equipment and general hotel systems. The role involves ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all facilities, responding to guest requests, and maintaining high standards of service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to and address guest repair requests promptly and professionally, resolving maintenance issues with minimal supervision.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools, equipment, and machinery, including cleaning and lubrication, and conduct visual inspections.
  • Identify, locate, and operate all equipment shut-off valves, and safely transport necessary equipment and tools.
  • Maintain required inventory for maintenance tasks, including ordering necessary parts and supplies.
  • Communicate daily activities and issues to other teams in accordance with approved standards.
  • Execute complex repairs on physical property, electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical equipment, air conditioning units, refrigeration systems, and pool heaters, adhering to company standards and local/national codes.
  • Troubleshoot and repair various types of equipment, plumbing (*, unclogging drains), and electrical systems (*, replacing switches, programming TVs).
  • Utilize lockout/tagout procedures before performing maintenance work to ensure safety.
  • Perform advanced Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) troubleshooting for the hotel.
  • Conduct Service Engineer responsibilities, including readings and rounds, and provide training and mentorship to other engineers as needed.

Technical Skills and Expertise

Candidates must possess strong technical capabilities to excel in this role. This includes a high-level ability to read blueprints and standard electrical schematics related to plumbing and HVAC systems. A superior understanding of engineering operations and strong general mechanical aptitude are essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate above-average proficiency in at least three of the following categories, with basic skills in the others:

  • Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
  • Electrical Systems
  • Mechanical Systems
  • Plumbing
  • Pneumatic and Electronic Systems and Controls
  • Carpentry and Finishing
  • Kitchen Equipment
  • Vehicles
  • Energy Conservation and General Building Management

Furthermore, a solid knowledge and skill set in the safe use of hand and power tools, along with the materials required for repair and maintenance tasks, are mandatory.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is recommended.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in hotel engineering or maintenance is required. Extensive experience and training in general maintenance, electrical work, refrigeration, inventory management, parts ordering, interior/exterior surface preparation, and painting are highly recommended.
  • Supervisory Experience: No supervisory experience is required for this role.
  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • Valid Driver's License.
    • Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certification.
    • Compliance with all applicable state and federal certification and/or licensing requirements.

Work Environment and Expectations

The Engineer Technician is expected to adhere to all company policies and procedures, reporting maintenance issues, unsafe working conditions, accidents, and injuries promptly. Successful completion of safety training and certifications is mandatory, along with proper storage of flammable materials. Maintaining a clean and professional uniform and personal appearance, safeguarding proprietary information, and protecting company assets are key responsibilities.

Interaction with guests requires greeting them according to company standards, anticipating and addressing their service needs, assisting individuals with disabilities, and expressing genuine appreciation. The role demands adherence to quality requirements and standards, fostering positive professional relationships with peers, and effective collaboration. Clear and courteous language is expected in all communications.

This position involves physical demands including moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and placing objects weighing less than 50 pounds (* kg) without assistance, and heavier objects with assistance. Tasks also include ascending and descending stairs, service ramps, and ladders, as well as reaching overhead and below the knees, bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. The ability to input and retrieve work-related information using computers is also required, along with performing other reasonable job duties as requested.
