About the Cultural Studies Quality Assurance Lead Role

YO IT Consulting is seeking a Cultural Studies Quality Assurance Lead for a remote, hourly contract position. This role is crucial for overseeing quality, consistency, and trainer performance across AI training projects in art history, visual culture, cultural studies, and humanities. Your expertise will directly contribute to improving leading AI models by ensuring humanities training data is accurate, culturally sensitive, visually literate, historically grounded, well-explained, and aligned with client expectations. Role Overview and Purpose

As a Cultural Studies Quality Assurance Lead, you will be instrumental in maintaining high standards for AI training data within the humanities. You will review AI-generated content and the work of trainers and quality assurance personnel, ensuring adherence to project guidelines and client expectations. This role involves detailed assessment of content for accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and interpretive nuance, playing a key part in the development of sophisticated AI models.

Key Responsibilities

• Review AI-generated art history and cultural studies content, as well as trainer and QA work, against project guidelines.
• Provide precise written feedback to ensure all contributors meet expected quality standards.
• Assess work for historical accuracy, visual analysis quality, cultural context, terminology accuracy, interpretive nuance, source awareness, representation sensitivity, clarity, formatting, instruction adherence, and project-specific rubrics.
• Identify and communicate recurring quality issues to trainers and QAs.
• Support the onboarding process for new team members.
• Maintain project documentation, including style guides and FAQs.
• Assist in activating contributors who are not working consistently.
• Monitor quality by spot-checking items, identifying issues, and escalating critical problems.
• Evaluate AI-generated explanations, visual analyses, cultural comparisons, and critical interpretations for accuracy and nuance.
• Respond to trainer and QA questions regarding visual analysis, attribution, periodization, cultural context, ethics, and rubric interpretation.
• Manage trainer and QA activation by encouraging engagement and tracking follow-ups.
• Conduct onboarding and training sessions to explain project expectations and quality standards.
• Ensure consistent application of review guidelines and understanding of project updates.
• Flag culturally insensitive, Eurocentric, decontextualized, stereotyping, misattributed, or unsupported claims.
• Propose workflow improvements and help build scalable QA processes.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Art History, Cultural Studies, Visual Culture, Museum Studies, Humanities, Fine Arts, Comparative Literature, Media Studies, Anthropology, History, or a closely related field.
• A strong command of the English language for clear written communication and guideline comprehension.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in art historical research, cultural analysis, museum/curatorial work, teaching, academic writing, visual analysis, editing, cultural criticism, or related humanities workflows.
• A solid understanding of art historical methods, visual analysis, iconography, style, periodization, patronage, museum ethics, cultural theory, representation, and historical context.
• The ability to evaluate content against detailed rubrics and identify specific issues such as misattribution, incorrect periodization, weak visual analysis, cultural stereotyping, unsupported interpretation, outdated terminology, or decontextualized claims.
• Experience leading or supporting remote teams of researchers, writers, reviewers, educators, curators, annotators, or QAs is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with areas such as ancient art, medieval art, Renaissance art, modern/contemporary art, non-Western art histories, photography, film/media, visual culture, postcolonial theory, gender studies, museum studies, or heritage studies is preferred.
• Experience with AI training, data annotation, LLM evaluation, humanities QA, cultural sensitivity review, image/content review, or rubric-based review is a strong plus.

Work Environment and Tools

This is a remote, contract role. Candidates should be comfortable working in fast-moving remote environments. Proficiency with collaboration tools such as Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, and project management systems is expected. The role requires a high degree of detail orientation and organizational skill to manage documentation and materials effectively.

Selection Process
