About the Geology QA Lead Role

YO IT Consulting is seeking a Geology QA Lead for an hourly, remote contractor position. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the quality, consistency, and performance of trainers across various geology and earth science AI training projects. Your primary focus will be to review AI-generated content and the work of trainers and QAs, ensuring all outputs meet project guidelines and quality standards.

Role Context and Impact

This position is with a rapidly expanding AI Data Services company that provides training data to leading AI companies and foundation-model labs globally. As a Geology QA Lead, your contributions will directly enhance the world’s premier AI models by ensuring that geology and earth science training data is accurate, well-contextualized, clearly explained, thoroughly documented, and aligned with client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct spot-checks of geology/earth science items, identify quality issues, provide ongoing feedback, and escalate recurring or critical concerns.
• Evaluate AI-generated geology explanations, earth science summaries, geologic process descriptions, map/data interpretations, climate or hazard explanations, and step-by-step reasoning for accuracy and clarity.
• Communicate updates to trainers and QAs regarding new item guidelines, project changes, workflow updates, quality expectations, and specific review standards.
• Respond promptly to trainer/QA questions, particularly concerning geologic timescales, rock/mineral identification, earth systems, natural hazards, spatial reasoning, environmental interpretation, and rubric interpretation.
• Manage trainer/QA activation by contacting inactive contributors, encouraging participation, tracking follow-ups, and flagging availability issues when needed.
• Create and maintain geology/earth science project documentation, including style guides, trackers, FAQs, quality notes, examples, honeypots, calibration tasks, and onboarding materials.
• Schedule and conduct onboarding/training calls with trainers and QAs to explain project expectations, workflows, rubrics, quality standards, and specific review requirements.
• Ensure consistent application of geology/earth science review guidelines across all trainers and QAs and ensure understanding of updates as projects evolve.
• Identify and flag misleading, overconfident, geologically impossible, environmentally unsupported, or poorly contextualized earth science claims.
• Propose workflow improvements and help build scalable QA processes for earth science/geology AI training projects.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should possess a strong academic background in Geology or Earth Sciences, complemented by practical experience in related fields such as research, teaching, fieldwork, or environmental consulting. A deep understanding of core geological concepts and earth system processes is essential. The role requires excellent attention to detail, structured communication skills, and the ability to evaluate complex scientific content against detailed rubrics. Familiarity with geospatial tools, data analysis, and remote team management is highly valued. Experience in AI training, data annotation, or scientific QA is considered a strong advantage.

A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience is required for this position.
