About the EHS Engineer Role

Larsen & Toubro is seeking an EHS Engineer for a full-time position in Riyadh. This role is suitable for individuals with 0-1 years of experience, offering an opportunity to contribute to the company's commitment to environmental, health, and safety standards on construction projects.

Core Responsibilities

The EHS Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive EHS documentation, including EHS plans, emergency response plans, and risk assessments. Key duties involve attending EHS meetings, reporting EHS issues to headquarters, and conducting EHS induction training for new personnel. Daily inspections of assigned zones and ensuring the proper use of safe work permits are critical aspects of this role. The engineer will also conduct site-wide risk assessments, communicate findings on high-risk areas, and ensure weekly toolbox talks are delivered to promote EHS awareness among workers. Maintaining a safe working environment includes ensuring the correct use of personal protective equipment, verifying the good working condition of equipment like ladders and scaffoldings, and ensuring satisfactory health and hygiene conditions for workers, such as adequate water, rest areas, lighting, and ventilation. Proper housekeeping to prevent incidents and conducting Job EHS Analyses for high-risk activities are also key responsibilities. The role involves encouraging the implementation of EHS practices, participating in incident investigations with engineers, communicating investigation results, and administering first aid or seeking medical assistance when necessary. Maintaining all EHS-related documentation is also a core function.

Integrated Management System Oversight

A significant responsibility includes establishing, monitoring, appraising, and coordinating an upgraded version of an integrated health, safety, and environment management system. This system must conform to ISO-45001:2018, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 9001 standards for construction projects. This involves improvising procedure manuals and conducting internal audits based on these standards.

Training and Risk Management

The EHS Engineer will conduct training programs on EHS topics for engineers and workers on-site, as well as participate in HR-organized EHS training. This includes hazard identification and risk assessment for critical activities, ensuring that method statements incorporate these findings. The role also involves preparing EHS Plans and Environment Management Plans, coordinating external EHS audits and third-party inspections of equipment, and preparing Emergency Preparedness Plans, including conducting emergency drills. Facilitating the implementation of the Work Permit System and coordinating occupational health and welfare measures are also key duties. The engineer will prepare conditions of contract on EHS for subcontractors and is empowered to stop work if any unsafe practices are witnessed, promoting a proactive safety culture. Monthly Risk Management Audits and quarterly system audits will be carried out, with EHS reports provided to the Project Head and IC Head to communicate the current status of EHS performance.

Qualifications and Experience

This position requires 0-1 years of experience in an EHS-related field. A foundational understanding of EHS principles and practices is expected.

Work Location and Type

The role is based in Riyadh and is a full-time position.
