Project Context: The Ar Rjum Project

This role supports the Ar Rjum Project, a greenfield gold project located in the Central Arabian Gold Region of Saudi Arabia. The project encompasses three open pit mining operations, associated waste dumps, an ore stockpile, a processing plant, tailings management facilities, and comprehensive supporting infrastructure. This infrastructure includes water and power supply, maintenance facilities, offices, and both temporary and permanent accommodation villages. The site is situated approximately 200 km north-east of Taif towards Riyadh, and about 26 km south of Al Mouwayh, a town on the Jeddah-Riyadh highway.

The Role: Field Engineer, Structural Architectural

Bechtel Corporation is seeking a Field Engineer, Structural Architectural for a full-time position in Saudi Arabia, with potential placements in Taif, Riyadh, or Jeddah. This role is central to construction engineering within the Civil discipline, focusing on concrete, structural steel, excavation/backfill, scaffolding, and architectural finishes. The successful candidate will apply relevant industrial codes and standards to ensure project integrity and progress, requiring 5-10 years of experience.

Key Responsibilities

The Field Engineer will be responsible for a range of critical activities, including:

  • Developing work plans and coordinating materials, including material take-offs and requisitions.
  • Performing and documenting inspections to verify materials, equipment, and quality, ensuring compliance with design requirements.
  • Reporting progress and resolving conflicts in design and construction related to the installation and testing of commodities through turnover to Startup/Commissioning.
  • Providing field engineering support and assistance to superintendents to meet cost and time schedules.
  • Performing Civil Field Engineering activities such as inspections, audits, and planning for formwork, rebar, concrete, structural steel, architectural, and earthwork installations, and performing rigging support and planning activities.
  • Assuring procedural compliance, material control, and thorough documentation of completed work.
  • Directing or performing preparation of quantity listings for field-purchased material and equipment, and initiating requisitions for field material purchases.
  • Supporting the preparation of construction drawings and schedules, design of temporary construction facilities, and ensuring preparation of as-built drawings.
  • Assisting with the planning and delivery of construction materials and equipment, ensuring proper warehousing and environmental protection.
  • Reviewing specifications, purchase orders, subcontracts, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals, and technical data to provide on-site advice.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this full-time position should possess 5-10 years of experience in a relevant field. The role requires strong planning and organizational skills, the ability to perform detailed inspections, and the capacity to produce accurate, clear, and concise documentation. Proficiency in interpreting design and vendor drawings and specifications is essential.

Physical and Professional Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Physical capability to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs, which may involve extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders and scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), navigating elevated platforms, uneven surfaces, and confined spaces.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a team-player mentality, and a knowledge-sharing approach.
  • Ability to solve problems through lateral thinking and understand the needs of clients and other entities to provide technical compliance and training.
  • Capability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team and manage challenging relationships.
  • Self-driven with the ability to plan and execute work independently, without direct supervision from senior management or peers.
