About the Role

Saudi Gold Refinery (SGR) is seeking a Fire Assay Technician to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position is critical for executing precise chemical analysis of gold dore and bullion samples, ensuring accurate determination of precious metal content in alignment with LBMA Good Delivery standards.

Role Context and Contribution

The Fire Assay Technician operates within a controlled industrial environment, adhering to strict safety and quality protocols essential for refining operations. Reporting directly to the Lab Manager, this role plays a key part in maintaining the integrity of assay data, which is vital for production yield and certification processes. The position requires technical expertise in fire assay methods and a disciplined approach to laboratory safety and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute sample preparation by crushing, splitting, and pulverizing materials to ensure representative analysis for fire assay.
• Perform fire assay operations including fusion, cupellation, and parting procedures to isolate gold and silver from base metal matrices.
• Operate instrumental analysis equipment such as Atomic Absorption Spectrometers to accurately quantify final gold purity levels.
• Monitor quality control by running certified reference materials and duplicates in each batch to validate analytical precision and accuracy.
• Support equipment maintenance through routine calibration of balances and furnaces, and report mechanical issues to maintenance staff.
• Adhere strictly to safety compliance, handling hazardous chemicals like lead oxide and acids in accordance with HSE guidelines and ventilation standards.
• Ensure data recording integrity by entering assay results into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for bullion certification and inventory reconciliation.
• Participate in audit readiness by maintaining organized records of sample logs and calibration certificates to facilitate ISO 17025 and LBMA audits.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess 5 to 10 years of experience in fire assay methods and laboratory operations. A strong understanding of chemical analysis techniques, particularly for precious metals, is required. The role demands a disciplined approach to laboratory safety protocols, quality assurance, and meticulous documentation practices.

• Maintain assay precision within * deviation from certified reference values.
• Achieve a record of zero safety incidents related to chemical handling or furnace operations.
• Ensure 100% completion of scheduled quality control checks and duplicate sample analyses.
• Contribute to laboratory practices that result in no major non-conformities during internal or external audits.
• Meet daily production targets for sample turnaround time without compromising analytical accuracy.
• Ensure all assay data entered into LIMS is accurate and requires no post-validation corrections.
• Keep equipment calibration logs up to date and readily available for inspection.
