Furniture & Upholstery Designer

About the Role

Fame Store is seeking a Furniture & Upholstery Designer to join their team in Riyadh. This full-time role requires a designer with practical experience in manufacturing methods and implementation, capable of developing products from initial concept to final production-ready prototype. The ideal candidate will combine creativity, functionality, comfort, and manufacturability in their designs.

Key Responsibilities

• Design chairs, sofas, and upholstered furniture.
• Design tables, consoles, cabinets, libraries, TV units, and various other furniture pieces.
• Develop modern furniture models and collections suitable for the market.
• Prepare executive drawings and technical specifications.
• Determine dimensions, thicknesses, and assembly/fixing methods.
• Design wooden and metal structures for furniture.
• Specify foam types and densities for chairs and sofas.
• Define upholstery, stitching, and fabric details.
• Select raw materials, colors, and finishes.
• Prepare a Bill of Materials (BOM) for each product.
• Coordinate with carpentry, upholstery, metalwork, and CNC departments.
• Monitor prototype manufacturing and implement necessary modifications.
• Develop designs to reduce manufacturing costs and waste.
• Prepare 3D models and renders for products.
• Ensure designs are feasible for production, packaging, transport, and installation.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Furniture Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, Product Design, Interior Architecture, or a related field with strong practical experience in furniture manufacturing.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in furniture design.
• Experience in designing chairs, sofas, and wooden furniture.
• Prior experience working in a furniture factory or a fit-out company is preferred.
• A portfolio showcasing actually manufactured products from previous designs is preferred.

Required Technical Knowledge

Candidates should possess good knowledge in the following areas:

• MDF, Plywood, and natural wood.
• Veneer and Melamine.
• Metals, legs, and bases.
• Foam types and densities.
• Springs and webbing.
• Fabrics, leathers, and upholstery.
• Hardware, hinges, and drawers.
• Assembly and fixing methods.
• Ergonomics and seating comfort.
• Carpentry and upholstery details.

Software Proficiency

Proficiency in the following software is preferred:

• AutoCAD
• 3ds Max
• SketchUp
• SolidWorks or Fusion 360
• V-Ray or Corona
• Photoshop / Illustrator
