Software Engineer

About the Role

MCG Asia is seeking a Software Engineer with 5-10 years of experience to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves building and enhancing backend platforms that power critical financial services workflows. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative engineering team, translating business requirements into secure, scalable, and reliable systems for a regulated environment.

Role Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based backend services and APIs.
• Build and enhance microservices using Spring Boot and modern Java.
• Translate business and product requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Develop RESTful APIs and integrate with internal and external systems.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and contribute to code reviews.
• Improve application performance, reliability, security, and scalability.
• Work with relational databases, messaging systems, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Troubleshoot production issues and support continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with product, QA, business analysts, and senior engineers.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Strong commercial experience with Java (ideally Java 17+).
• Solid hands-on experience with Spring / Spring Boot and microservices.
• Experience building REST APIs and backend integrations.
• Strong understanding of OOP, design patterns, and clean coding practices.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.
• Familiarity with Git, automated testing, CI/CD, and Agile delivery.
• Good problem-solving skills and a pragmatic, ownership-driven mindset.

Preferred Experience

• Previous experience working within Financial Services (FS) and Business-to-Consumer (B2C) environments.
• Experience in banking, payments, fintech, or other regulated industries is advantageous.
• Exposure to trading, payments, risk, treasury, lending, or post-trade platforms.

Desirable Technical Skills

• Kafka or other event-driven/messaging technologies.
• Docker and Kubernetes.
• Cloud experience, particularly AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with performance tuning, JVM diagnostics, or high-volume transactional systems.
