Norconsult Telematics is seeking an experienced OSP and Fiber Trainer for a contract position. This role is based on-site in Damascus and requires 2-5 years of relevant experience in Outside Plant fiber engineering and training. The successful candidate will play a key role in enhancing the technical capabilities of client teams.

Role Summary

The Trainer will be responsible for coaching and mentoring the Client’s Contractors, design, and inspection teams. This involves developing and enhancing comprehensive training materials that align with the latest applied standards and guidelines. The role emphasizes demonstrating best practices on-site and driving effective knowledge transfer to add measurable value to the Client’s staff.

Core Responsibilities

• Conduct classroom and on-site training, delivered bilingually in English and Arabic, for the Client’s contractors, design, and inspection teams.
• Demonstrate OSP best practices and methods of procedure, including excavation, trenching, ducting, backfilling, reinstatement, and trenchless methods such as HDD and micro-trenching.
• Provide practical instruction on OSP cable installation, hauling, blowing/jetting, and splicing/jointing techniques, with on-site demonstrations.
• Train teams on optical network testing and measurement using tools like OTDR, optical power meters, and light sources, including the interpretation of results against acceptance criteria.
• Instruct on OSP fiber materials and passive components, specification compliance, and material/product evaluation; support specification review and quality control.
• Create and update training modules, slides, and handouts to ensure alignment with the latest applied standards and guidelines.
• Develop new methods for effective knowledge transfer and verify competence through assessment, feedback, and follow-up mechanisms.

Required Technical Expertise

Candidates must possess in-depth knowledge of all aspects of Outside Plant fiber engineering, materials, and specifications. This includes a strong understanding of optical network components and installation practices. The role requires the ability to clearly demonstrate technical procedures and ensure practical application of theoretical knowledge.

Compliance and Safety Standards

The Trainer will ensure strict adherence to industry and national standards throughout all training and operational guidance. This includes applying national operator construction and acceptance specifications, as well as the Client’s specific guidelines.

• Ensure adherence to ISO/IEC 11801, IEC 60794 (optical cables), and ITU-T G-series recommendations.
• Apply national Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) frameworks, aligned with ISO 45001, covering confined-space, excavation, working-at-height, and heat-stress controls.
• Manage requirements for Road Authority permits and No Objection Certificates (NOCs) before excavation, and observe regulated summer midday work bans.

Candidate Requirements

We are seeking a professional with 2-5 years of experience as an OSP trainer, capable of delivering comprehensive and practical training. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills in both English and Arabic, with a commitment to fostering competence and ensuring safety in all OSP fiber operations. This is an on-site contract position in Damascus.
