About the Role

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, *** is seeking a Director of Finance for a contract position in Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This role functions as the property’s strategic financial business leader, responsible for championing, developing, and implementing property-wide strategies to meet brand and customer expectations. The Director of Finance provides essential financial expertise to ensure successful implementation of brand service strategies and initiatives while maximizing return on investment.

Strategic Financial Planning and Analysis

This position involves leading comprehensive financial planning and analysis to drive profitability and operational efficiency. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing strategies to improve profit, including cost/benefit analysis and exploring new business opportunities.
  • Analyzing financial information, forecasting sales against expenses, and creating annual budget plans.
  • Monitoring actual sales against projected sales and analyzing variances in wages for efficient budget planning.
  • Creating and executing a business plan aligned with property and brand strategies, focusing on financial activities and results.
  • Providing analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost-saving and productivity opportunities.
  • Ensuring a strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets and improve profitability.

Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement

The Director of Finance leads finance teams and manages relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring financial objectives are clearly communicated and achieved. Responsibilities include:

  • Leading, influencing, and encouraging teams through strong interpersonal and communication skills, advocating sound financial decision-making.
  • Communicating strategic goals, focus areas, and owner priorities clearly to subordinates.
  • Overseeing internal, external, and regulatory audit processes.
  • Providing leadership by assigning clear accountability and appropriate authority to team members and other department managers.
  • Attending meetings and communicating with owners to understand their priorities and strategic focus.
  • Advising the General Manager and executive committee on existing and evolving operating and financial issues.
  • Managing property working capital and cash flow in accordance with brand standards and owner requirements.

Financial Operations and Compliance

This role ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of all financial operations and reporting. Key duties include:

  • Ensuring Profits and Losses are documented accurately and reviewing audit issues for precision.
  • Monitoring all applicable taxes, ensuring they are current, collected, and/or accrued.
  • Submitting reports in a timely manner, meeting all delivery deadlines.
  • Reconciling balance sheets to ensure account balances are supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Ensuring compliance with management contracts, reporting requirements, and standard operating procedures.
  • Monitoring the purchasing process as applicable.

Human Resources Activities

The Director of Finance also oversees human resource activities within the department to foster a capable and compliant team. This includes:

  • Ensuring team members are cross-trained to support successful daily operations.
  • Administering property policies fairly and consistently.
  • Ensuring new hires participate in the department’s orientation program and receive appropriate training.
  • Creating development plans for team members based on individual strengths, needs, and career aspirations.
  • Conducting performance review processes for employees and participating in hiring activities as appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this role should possess significant experience in financial leadership within a hospitality environment.

  • A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data, forecast trends, and develop strategic business plans.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to influence executive teams and manage diverse finance functions.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, audit processes, and regulatory compliance.
