About the Role
Acwa Operations, formerly NOMAC, is seeking a Shift Charge Engineer for its Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant in Rabigh, Makkah. This full-time position is responsible for the overall plant operation activities during shifts, ensuring all tasks are performed safely and efficiently in accordance with established procedures and schedules. The role requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in the power or desalination industry.
Company and Project Context
Acwa Operations is the operations and maintenance arm of ACWA, focused on ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of power generation and water desalination assets. The Rabigh 4 IWP is a significant seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant with a capacity of 600,000 m3/day, located near the existing Rabigh 3 IWP Plant. The project is a consortium involving ACWA Power, Haji Ali Reza (HAACO), and Al Moayyed, with commissioning scheduled for March 31, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all plant operations are conducted safely and efficiently, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality standards, and time schedules, including safe plant startup and shutdown.
- Comply with safety rules and regulations, and be aware of plant hazards.
- Familiarize with plant O&M agreements, P&IDs, SOPs, work instructions, control logics, emergency procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with all departments on plant operations during the shift and manage the permit-to-work system.
- Coordinate plant chemistry activities with the Chemist.
- Follow operational schedules to achieve targeted production availability safely and efficiently.
- Coordinate any plant status changes with the Operations Manager.
- Make timely decisions to correct abnormalities or disturbances and take corrective actions during emergencies.
- Supervise startup checklists, interlock checks, protection tests, and non-routine activities.
- Issue and cancel work permits upon authorization, and normalize equipment after release, performing necessary testing.
- Monitor overall plant status, summarize activities in the logbook, and complete daily plant status reports.
- Prepare incident/accident reports and other required reports within stipulated time periods.
- Assist in the training and familiarization of new personnel.
- Study and suggest modifications to improve plant efficiency.
- Ensure Environmental Aspect-Impact and Hazard Risk Assessments are carried out, controlled, and updated.
- Implement, monitor, and report IMS objectives, targets, and programs.
- Report deviations in the Integrated Management System, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Identify root causes for non-conformances/deviations and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Identify competency gaps for subordinate personnel and implement necessary actions.
- Carry out periodic performance evaluations of reporting employees.
- Provide on-the-job training to new employees and evaluate their performance.
- Identify, document, and control hazards in the assigned work area.
- Ensure identified aspects are monitored and operational controls are followed.
- Control emergencies, incidents, and near misses.
- Communicate with the load dispatch center.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- 5-10 years of experience in Power/Desalination/RO plants.
Essential Skills and Knowledge
- Awareness of Quality, Occupational Health & Safety, and Environment Management system principles.
- Knowledge of applicable legal requirements.
- Proficiency in conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Experience with Hazard Risk assessment and Aspect Impact assessment.
- Strong investigating skills.
- Familiarity with spillage containment and waste identification, classification, and disposal.
- Capability of managing HSE emergencies.
- Familiarity with Emission Monitoring practices and parameters.
- Well-versed with Power/Desalination/RO Operational activities.
- Ability to make decisions under stress.
- Strong leadership qualities.
- Excellent analytical skills.
Work Location and Type
This is a full-time position located in Rabigh, Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
