About the Role

Mace Group is seeking a Discipline Manager - Civil Engineer / Senior Construction Manager to provide civil engineering leadership across a programme. This full-time role focuses on aligning design, construction, and technical assurance to deliver integrated infrastructure outcomes, with a specific emphasis on substructure works, stormwater, drainage, flood mitigation, and hydraulic coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote Mace's Safety First value, demonstrating visible safety behaviours, sharing lessons learned, and utilising safety moments and the HSW framework.
  • Ensure robust quality systems are in place and managed in line with service excellence.
  • Manage project delivery from inception through design development, planning, contractor procurement, and construction, adhering to the overall delivery program and agreed milestones.
  • Oversee tasks and deliverables in support of senior leadership and project teams to ensure timely and accurate project delivery.
  • Manage project budgets, identifying and mitigating risks and challenges.
  • Support the long-term development of the function or Business Unit to ensure a sustainable business future.
  • Manage design and consultant teams collaboratively to ensure effective completion of responsibilities.
  • Lead and manage the project team and stakeholders to achieve strategic project Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Actively network, innovate, and seek best practices, leveraging Mace Group's knowledge resources.

Technical Leadership and Project Management

  • Provide technical leadership for civil engineering disciplines across multiple delivery packages.
  • Review engineering designs for compliance with programme requirements and applicable standards.
  • Lead technical reviews for substructures, earthworks, roads, utilities, structures, and drainage systems.
  • Offer specialist technical guidance on stormwater design and flood management systems.
  • Coordinate technical interfaces between civil and utility disciplines.
  • Review temporary and permanent works proposals and support the resolution of technical design and construction issues.
  • Manage technical risk identification and mitigation activities, and monitor technical performance and compliance during delivery.
  • Lead the construction of MEP services within the project MEP team, ensuring compliance with Mace standards.
  • Be accountable for the construction aspects of MEP services, site environment management, programme, Health Safety & Wellbeing, Quality & Commissioning.
  • Liaise and coordinate with key project stakeholders, including clients, consultants, and trade contractors.
  • Manage the checking and oversight of design output to ensure clarity, achievability, buildability, and conformity to preferred methods.
  • Prepare and implement delivery strategies and programmes for all project phases, considering milestones, interfaces, dependencies, logistics, and work sequencing.
  • Develop and implement project-specific dimensional control strategies, ensuring adherence to project and strategic KPIs.
  • Establish and ensure adherence to company and project quality requirements and procedures.
  • Manage and contribute to the production of quality assurance information, embedding standards across teams and projects.
  • Manage and provide leadership to teams of managers and professionals, ensuring standards, structures, tools, capabilities, and responsibilities are in place.
  • Manage technical aspects of projects, including innovations and technical developments, and identify continuous improvement plans.
  • Provide performance management, technical development, and coaching to the team.
  • Manage and influence key stakeholders, building internal and external working relationships.
  • Work collaboratively towards net zero carbon transition, identifying and managing associated carbon emissions and reductions.
