About the Role

YO IT Consulting is seeking a PHP Quality Assurance Lead for a remote, contract role. This position focuses on overseeing the quality and consistency of PHP AI training projects. The role involves reviewing AI-generated PHP code and the work of trainers and QA personnel, ensuring adherence to project guidelines, and providing detailed written feedback. This is an opportunity to contribute to a rapidly growing AI Data Services company that provides training data to major AI companies and foundation-model labs. Your leadership in PHP quality will be instrumental in ensuring training data is accurate, executable, secure, well-explained, and meets client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct spot checks on PHP items and provide continuous feedback via direct messages.
• Review AI-generated PHP code, backend code snippets, debugging responses, API examples, database logic, and test cases.
• Communicate guideline updates and PHP-specific quality standards to trainers and QAs on Discord.
• Address inquiries regarding PHP syntax, frameworks, runtime behavior, security, testing methodologies, and rubric interpretation.
• Engage inactive contributors through direct messages and follow-up tracking.
• Develop and maintain PHP documentation, style guides, code examples, tracking systems, FAQs, honeypots, and onboarding materials.
• Facilitate onboarding and training sessions for PHP trainers and QAs.
• Identify and flag PHP recommendations that are insecure, outdated, misleading, or not production-ready.
• Analyze recurring quality issues and propose improvements to QA processes.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or equivalent professional experience.
• Proficiency in English for understanding guidelines and providing clear technical feedback.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in PHP development, backend engineering, code review, QA, mentoring, or related fields.
• Strong understanding of PHP 8+, Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), namespaces, Composer, autoloading, arrays, exceptions, type declarations, sessions, HTTP, REST APIs, database access, and error handling.
• Ability to evaluate PHP content and identify issues such as non-executable code, insecure SQL handling, weak validation, logical flaws, outdated syntax, hallucinated APIs, or incomplete explanations.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Familiarity with frameworks and tools such as Laravel, Symfony, PHPUnit, Pest, MySQL/PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, static analysis tools, and PSR standards.
• Prior experience leading or supporting remote teams of trainers, annotators, reviewers, engineers, or QAs.
• Comfort working with platforms including Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, various trackers, dashboards, GitHub, and project management systems.
• High level of organization with the ability to maintain documentation, style guides, trackers, FAQs, calibration tasks, and honeypots.
• Experience with AI training, Large Language Model (LLM) evaluation, code QA, or rubric-based review processes.

Work Arrangement and Opportunity

This is a contract, hourly position. While there is no immediate project assignment for this role, qualified candidates will be prioritized for future relevant opportunities within the company's expert network. This also provides access to future projects available through the network.
