Shift Chemist

About the Role

Acwa China is seeking a Shift Chemist to join their team in Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves conducting qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses and experiments in laboratories, primarily for quality and process control, as well as for the development of new products or knowledge. The position requires 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Comply with all safety rules and regulations, maintaining full awareness of plant safety hazards.
• Familiarize with regulatory requirements related to environmental compliance, plant chemicals, MSDS, P&IDs, SOPs, Work Instructions, and emergency procedures.
• Manage all laboratory activities, including chemical sampling and analysis, ensuring all parameters are within specified limits.
• Coordinate with the Shift Charge Engineer/Supervisor during unit start-up, shutdown, and normal plant operations to maintain chemistry control across shifts.
• Conduct quality inspections of all chemicals received at the plant.
• Prepare and carry out acid cleaning for Desalination and Hypo plants under the supervision of the Chief Chemist when required.
• Ensure proper housekeeping of laboratory equipment and manage spillages.
• Perform troubleshooting for chemical dosing systems and laboratory equipment, and follow up on daily maintenance based on defect reports.
• Maintain accurate chemical consumption records and coordinate with the stores department.
• Monitor all chemical parameters, record periodic readings on log sheets, and summarize shift activities in the log book.
• Prepare monthly reports and other relevant reports for the supervised area.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a relevant chemical or laboratory role.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses.
• Proficiency in maintaining detailed records and preparing reports.
• Strong understanding of safety regulations and environmental compliance.

Work Environment

This position requires readiness to work in a remote location. The role operates on a full-time basis, involving round-the-clock shifts to ensure continuous chemistry control.
