Shift Chemist

About the Role

ACWA Power is seeking a Shift Chemist to conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses and experiments within laboratory settings. This full-time role is essential for quality and process control, as well as for contributing to the development of new products or knowledge. The position requires 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Comply with all established safety rules and regulations, maintaining full awareness of plant safety hazards.
• Familiarise with regulatory requirements related to environmental compliance, plant chemicals, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), relevant Plant & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions, and emergency operation procedures.
• Manage all laboratory activities, including chemical sampling and analysis for the plant, ensuring all parameters remain within specified limits.
• Coordinate with the Shift Charge Engineer/Supervisor during unit start-up, shutdown, and normal plant operation to maintain chemistry control across round-the-clock shifts.
• Perform quality inspections of all chemicals received at the plant.
• Prepare for and execute acid cleaning of Desalination plants and Hypo plants under the supervision of the Chief Chemist, as required.
• Maintain the housekeeping of laboratory equipment and manage spillages.
• Conduct troubleshooting for chemical dosing systems and laboratory equipment, following up on day-to-day maintenance based on defect reports.
• Maintain accurate chemical consumption records and coordinate with stores for inventory management.
• Monitor all chemical parameters, entering periodic readings onto log sheets.
• Summarise all activities and events that occur during the shift in the log book.
• Prepare monthly reports and other relevant reports pertaining to the supervised area.
• Perform other assigned duties as necessary.

Experience and Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in a relevant chemical analysis or laboratory role.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses.
• Proficiency in maintaining detailed records related to plant chemistry.

Work Environment

This role requires the ability and willingness to work in a remote location. The Shift Chemist will operate in round-the-clock shifts, necessitating flexibility and commitment to maintaining continuous plant chemistry control.
