About the Role
Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) is seeking an Ophthalmology Subspecialist for a full-time, locum position based in Dhahran. This role is responsible for providing comprehensive ophthalmological care to Saudi Aramco employees and their eligible dependents, contributing to integrated preventative and curative medical care programs.
Scope of Practice
The Ophthalmology Subspecialist will evaluate, diagnose, and treat a full spectrum of medical and surgical eye conditions. This includes ordering diagnostic tests, performing non-invasive and invasive procedures, and conducting both elective and emergency surgeries as expected within the scope of an Ophthalmologist and Sub-specialist. Proficiency in YAG and Argon laser applications is also required.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting complete eye examinations, assessments, and determining appropriate treatment plans.
- Discussing findings, management options, expected outcomes, and potential complications with patients and their families.
- Monitoring patient progress throughout their illness at appropriate intervals.
- Maintaining accurate and prompt patient medical records, including diagnoses, treatments, and actions taken.
- Ensuring strict confidentiality of patient medical records.
- Performing elective and emergency surgeries within the scope of general ophthalmology.
- Providing on-call coverage for emergency and urgent cases, including nights and weekends, as per the schedule.
- Performing specialized procedures on an outpatient basis.
- Consulting with other physicians and specialists when necessary.
- Referring patients to appropriate specialists when required.
- Participating in group conferences to provide expert opinions on complex medical cases.
Qualifications and Experience
- Graduation from an approved medical school.
- Board Certification by the American Board, Canadian Royal College of Physicians, or an equivalent recognized board.
- Completion of a one-year internship in a recognized training program.
- Two years of Fellowship training in Ophthalmology, with board certification from a program recognized by SCFHS & JHAH HR.
- A minimum of three years of post-board practice experience in Ophthalmology, with demonstrated expertise.
- A valid license to practice medicine.
- Excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written.
Professional Interactions
This role involves daily contact with patients and their families, as well as collaboration with physicians, specialists, nurses, allied health staff, and clinical administrators. The ability to adjust to group practice within a medical environment is essential.
