About the Lead Accountant Position at ZATCA

The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) is seeking a Lead Accountant to join our finance team in Riyadh. This full-time role is designed for an experienced professional capable of managing complex accounting operations and contributing to financial accuracy and compliance. The successful candidate will operate with general directions, focusing on developing solutions to challenges and addressing issues escalated from junior levels.

Core Accounting Responsibilities

The Lead Accountant undertakes a range of complex operational activities to ensure the integrity of financial records and transactions. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Recording accounting transactions and journal entries related to accounts payable and payroll, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting standards and principles.
  • Reviewing invoices and payment requests, matching them with approved purchase orders, investigating inconsistencies, and escalating issues as necessary.
  • Reviewing vendors’ accounts and transactions to maintain appropriate payment schedules and amounts in line with predefined SLAs and timeframes.
  • Preparing necessary requests for bank transfers and other payment documents.
  • Handling business transactions with banks, including deposits, withdrawals, and transfers, and ensuring daily reconciliation.
  • Processing payments for invoices, payroll, benefits, pensions, and staff rewards in a timely and accurate manner, verifying authorization and clearance for scheduled release.

Financial Reconciliation and Data Integrity

A critical aspect of this role involves ensuring the accuracy and consistency of financial data through diligent reconciliation and investigation:

  • Reviewing and reconciling ZATCA payroll data submitted by concerned stakeholders, identifying deviations, and investigating discrepancies with relevant parties.
  • Reconciling petty cash and managing the replenishment of petty cash funds according to the approved budget.
  • Investigating inconsistencies across various accounts and transactions to ensure financial accuracy.

Compliance and Problem Resolution

The Lead Accountant is responsible for upholding financial policies and providing support in resolving complex issues within the team:

  • Following all relevant policies, processes, and standard operating procedures to ensure work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
  • Helping to solve escalated problems and providing necessary support for junior team members to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Escalating complex problems to the relevant person to ensure cases and issues are closed properly.
  • Performing other duties as requested to support the finance department.

Candidate Qualifications and Experience

We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in accounting and financial operations. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Between 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in an accounting or financial role.
  • Proven capability to conduct work with general directions and develop solutions to challenges requiring analytical understanding.
  • Demonstrated ability to address and resolve issues escalated from junior levels.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, offering an opportunity to contribute to the financial operations of a key government authority. The salary for this position will be disclosed during the interview process.
