Senior Steel Structure Design Engineer

About the Role

Dar Al Riyadh is seeking a Senior Steel Structure Design Engineer to join its engineering consultancy team in Riyadh. This full-time role requires an experienced professional to manage the analysis, design, and technical review of steel structures for diverse projects, ensuring adherence to international codes, project specifications, and client requirements. The successful candidate will coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and provide solutions throughout design and construction phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead structural analysis and design for steel structures in commercial, industrial, infrastructure, and other building projects.
• Prepare and review structural calculations, design reports, technical specifications, and structural drawings.
• Perform structural analysis and design of steel elements, including beams, columns, trusses, bracing systems, connections, and base plates.
• Ensure compliance with applicable design codes and standards such as AISC, ACI, ASCE, Eurocodes, and relevant local regulations.
• Review steel fabrication and erection drawings, connection details, shop drawings, and technical submittals.
• Coordinate with architectural, civil, MEP, and other engineering disciplines to resolve design interfaces and clashes.
• Conduct technical reviews of structural designs prepared by team members and external consultants.
• Provide technical support during construction, including responding to RFIs, reviewing contractor submissions, and resolving structural design issues.
• Identify design risks, propose cost-effective structural solutions, and optimize steel tonnage while maintaining safety and performance.
• Monitor design deliverables, project schedules, and quality standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and support the development of the structural engineering team.
• Participate in technical meetings with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering; a relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in steel structure design.
• Previous experience working with an engineering consultancy firm is essential.
• Experience with industrial buildings, warehouses, factories, commercial buildings, or other steel-intensive projects.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of structural analysis, steel design, connection design, and structural detailing.
• Strong understanding of international structural design codes and standards.
• Experience reviewing technical submissions, calculations, shop drawings, and contractor documents.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit is an advantage.
• Excellent technical reporting, coordination, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple design deliverables and meet project deadlines.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, requiring collaboration within a multidisciplinary engineering team and engagement with clients and stakeholders.
