SMU Manager

About the Role

BAE Systems is seeking an SMU Manager to ensure the safe and effective delivery of the Taif-based Maintenance Solution. This full-time role involves operating in line with the Salam Maintenance & Continuing Airworthiness Management System and ensuring the maintenance organization adheres to the agreed Salam Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE). The SMU Manager will also ensure the MOE accurately reflects current operations at Taif.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure all maintenance personnel within the SMU are suitably qualified and experienced.
• Oversee that all maintenance is conducted according to Approved Maintenance data, engineering standards, and practices.
• Develop and maintain Maintenance Performance Metrics to support cost-effective deployment of the SMU Maintenance solution.
• Highlight maintenance-related risks to the business via the Salam Risk and Opportunity Management System.
• Report issues with the RSAF RFL or Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE) to the Head of Engineering & Compliance for resolution.
• Formally record and escalate any data integrity issues with Approved Data to the originator or through the Head of Engineering & Compliance.
• Ensure the SMU Maintenance Organisation has sufficient qualified staff and provides necessary training to maintain competence.
• Promote a safety reporting culture with proactive hazard analysis, documented through the Taif Operations Safety Case.
• Plan and implement SMU maintenance support activities to meet RSAF Operational requirements.
• Provide direct supervision to personnel, ensuring engineering standards are maintained.
• Direct reports and their staff, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
• Ensure SMU personnel comply with safety precautions, maintenance principles, and engineering procedures.
• Act as SHE Plan Holder for the SMU facility.
• Ensure individuals hold correct Technical Qualifications and Authorisations.
• Maintain manning levels by liaising with the Salam Project Manpower resource team.
• Identify and report any practice, procedure, or system threatening safety or quality.
• Investigate all reported quality occurrences pertaining to the SMU.
• Ensure local quality checks are performed per the scheduled audit plan.
• Investigate and report on customer complaints.
• Act as a focal point for on-site issues.
• Manage the SMU SMS utilizing SORT/MEDA.
• Perform additional tasks as delegated by the Head of Maintenance.

Qualifications and Experience

• Essential:

  • A recognized qualification to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC level in a relevant technical discipline, a technical apprenticeship, or an equivalent technical qualification acceptable to M&CA.
  • Alternatively, a current or lapsed Part 66 license, or an equivalent technical license acceptable to M&CA, or a relevant Engineering Degree.
  • Saudi Engineering Council (SEC) Registration or the ability to obtain registration.
  • At least 10 years of post-qualification practical maintenance experience within an operational flying aircraft environment, supported by formal recorded workplace training.
  • At least 7 years of experience in a relevant management role.
  • Extensive working knowledge of EASA/M&CA Part 145.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills with a proven ability to supervise engineering personnel at all levels.
  • Business unit level awareness of external organizational circumstances.

• Desirable:

  • Relevant type training (Q Course) and equipment-specific training.
  • Thorough understanding of company processes and procedures.
  • Broad aerospace and defense company/industry knowledge.
  • Experienced Certifying Engineer with extensive BAE Systems supervisory experience in the defined area.

Work Environment

This full-time position is based in Taif, Saudi Arabia, within the BAE Systems operations. The role requires a commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards in a dynamic operational environment.
