AsstChief Engineer I

About the Role

Sheraton is seeking an AsstChief Engineer I for a full-time position. This role involves assisting the department head in managing budgets, capital expenditures, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation. The AsstChief Engineer I is accountable for maintaining the building and grounds, with a particular focus on safety, security, and asset protection. The position requires 2-5 years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise the distribution and monitor the timeliness and quality of repair work orders.
• Assist in effectively planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs.
• Manage the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical, and life safety systems.
• Recommend or arrange for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.
• Select, order, or purchase new equipment, supplies, and furnishings.
• Supervise the day-to-day operations of Engineering and related departments, including acting in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
• Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to determine required work.
• Operate generators and fire pumps as necessary and provide 24/7 emergency response services.
• Repair equipment (*, refrigeration, laundry) as needed.

Property Standards and Customer Service

• Ensure property policies are administered fairly and consistently.
• Maintain accurate logs and records as required.
• Emphasize guest satisfaction during departmental meetings and focus on continuous improvement.
• Set a positive example for guest relations and empower employees to provide excellent customer service.

Human Resources Activities

• Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with employees.
• Ensure regular communication with employees to create awareness of business objectives, communicate expectations, and recognize performance.
• Help train employees in safety procedures and support a departmental orientation program.
• Communicate performance expectations in accordance with job descriptions.
• Ensure disciplinary procedures and documentation adhere to Standard and Local Operating Procedures (SOPs and LSOPs).
• Assist in interviewing and hiring employee team members and participate in the employee performance appraisal process.
• Supervise staffing levels to meet guest service, operational needs, and financial objectives.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a relevant field.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, capital expenditures, and preventative maintenance programs.
• Strong understanding of building and grounds maintenance, with a focus on safety, security, and asset protection.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position within the Sheraton team, requiring active involvement in property operations and staff management.
