About the SMP Lead Operator Role

Saudi Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical Company (SATORP) is seeking an experienced SMP Lead Operator for a full-time position in Jubail, Eastern, Saudi Arabia. This role involves overseeing and implementing complex processes and operations across various refining and petrochemical units, including sweetening, refrigeration, storage, shipping, fractionation, drying, crude distillation, stripping, platforming, and hydrocracking. The Lead Operator demonstrates advanced technical ability in oil, gas, or seawater handling, treatment, or processing within SATORP operations, and may also serve as a highly skilled operator in less complex plants.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage Shift Operators and oversee operational activities across SATORP facilities.
  • Perform high-skill operational duties in complex refining and petrochemical processes.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams to identify equipment locations and monitor ongoing activities.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments to ensure safe operational practices.
  • Ensure all work permit precautions and required conditions are met before commencing tasks.
  • Provide informal guidance and support to junior team members, enhancing overall team efficiency.
  • Complete assigned work activities independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Contribute to the resolution of moderate to complex and uncommon operational problems, applying existing standards and procedures.

Operational Execution

  • Monitor and execute all assigned tasks safely and efficiently, adhering to established operating procedures and supervisor instructions.
  • Perform safe start-up and shutdown procedures in line with approved operating guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records in log books (OLB), operating log sheets, and relevant checklists, reporting any deviations promptly.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations, taking immediate actions to restore normal operating conditions.
  • Conduct regular plant inspections and check rounds to ensure correct functioning, addressing malfunctions or escalating incidents as necessary.
  • Collect samples and perform required process chemical and physical tests.
  • Identify and report faulty equipment, ensuring maintenance notifications are raised efficiently.
  • Develop and update operational documentation.
  • Execute in-plant housekeeping duties and communicate any external support requirements to the supervisor.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.

Safety and Regulatory Adherence

  • Strictly adhere to all company Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all assigned tasks are performed safely and in compliance with operational guidelines.
  • Actively participate in the Emergency Response Team (ERT) when nominated, contributing to site safety protocols.

Qualifications and Required Experience

  • A minimum of a Two (2) years Diploma or equivalent, or a high school diploma.
  • Between 5 to 10 years of relevant operational experience in refining, petrochemicals, or similar heavy industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills necessary to proficiently complete assigned work within the area of expertise.
  • A strong understanding of team integration and interdepartmental collaboration to achieve operational objectives.
  • Proficiency in the proper use and maintenance of available communication devices.

This is a full-time position based in Jubail, Eastern, Saudi Arabia, offering an opportunity to contribute to the critical operations of Saudi Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical Company (SATORP).
