SYSTRA Arabia is seeking a Track Design Engineer to provide Project Management Consultancy (PMC) services for a significant client in Saudi Arabia. This role is integral to supporting major rail projects within the region.

The Role of Track Design Engineer

The Track Design Engineer will focus on leading and assuring track alignment design for various rail projects. This involves aligning multidisciplinary interfaces and ensuring project delivery adheres to client standards and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Engineering Lead in reviewing horizontal and vertical alignment design for mainline, depot, and yard tracks using industry-standard tools such as Bentley OpenRail, Civil 3D, and MX.
Define and enforce geometric design criteria, alignment control parameters, and tolerances across all project phases, including concept, preliminary, and detailed design.
Conduct design checks, optioneering, and value engineering for alignments, turnouts, crossovers, and transition curves to optimize performance, maintainability, and cost efficiency.
Ensure compliance with international and regional rail standards and client-specific requirements, integrating RAMS, maintainability, and ride quality considerations into designs.
Act as the integrated PMC representative to the client, coordinating multi-disciplinary interfaces across civil, structures, trackwork, OCS, signaling, drainage, and utilities.
Manage technical queries, change requests, and design approvals, maintaining clear audit trails and configuration control throughout the project lifecycle.
Lead design risk management for alignment choices, considering factors such as ground conditions, utilities, third-party constraints, and environmental impacts.
Oversee contractor and designer performance on alignment deliverables, ensuring adherence to baseline schedules and quality standards.
Maintain design schedules, registers, and progress reporting for all alignment-related works.
Prepare and present technical reports, design review comments, and decision logs to client stakeholders.
Ensure constructability and staging are embedded in alignment design, providing support to site teams during construction and responding to Requests for Information (RFIs).
Implement robust quality assurance processes, including independent design reviews and verification/validation activities.
Align deliverables with Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) authority requirements and applicable standards, supporting permitting and approvals processes.
Engage with stakeholders, authorities, and third parties to resolve constraints, protect corridors, and secure necessary approvals.

Required Experience and Skills

Candidates for this position should possess a solid design background in track engineering.

A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in track design.
Proficiency in industry-standard design tools such as Bentley OpenRail, Civil 3D, or MX.
Demonstrated ability to define and enforce geometric design criteria and alignment control parameters.
Strong understanding of international and regional rail standards, including KSA authority requirements.
Experience in coordinating multi-disciplinary interfaces and managing design risks.
Ability to prepare technical reports and present findings to stakeholders.
