About the Assistant Manager, Restaurants Role

Courtyard by Marriott in Riyadh is seeking an Assistant Manager for its Restaurants. This full-time position involves supporting the daily operations of restaurant and bar areas, and potentially room service. The role requires a focus on enhancing guest and employee satisfaction through effective supervision and operational management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the daily supervision of restaurant and bar operations, including menu planning and sanitation standards.
  • Provide support to servers and hosts during peak meal periods.
  • Address employee questions and concerns, monitor performance, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Supervise daily shift operations and oversee restaurant areas in the absence of senior management.
  • Ensure all employees have necessary supplies, equipment, and uniforms.
  • Communicate any food quality or service level issues to the Chef and Restaurant Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with all restaurant policies, standards, and procedures, including alcohol beverage service laws.
  • Manage operations to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
  • Perform duties of restaurant employees and related departments as needed.
  • Open and close restaurant shifts.
  • Interact with guests to gather feedback on product quality and service.
  • Supervise staffing levels to meet guest service, operational, and financial objectives.
  • Encourage employees to provide excellent customer service and handle guest issues and complaints.
  • Assist in reviewing comment cards and guest satisfaction results with employees.
  • Meet and greet guests.
  • Supervise ongoing training initiatives and utilize on-the-job training tools.
  • Communicate performance expectations and provide coaching and counseling to employees.
  • Recognize good quality products and presentations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Alternatively, a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Food Service Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related major.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in the food and beverage, culinary, or related professional area is required with a high school diploma/GED.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the food and beverage, culinary, or related professional area is required with a 2-year degree.
  • Experience required is between 5-10 years.

Operational Management Skills

This role involves managing day-to-day restaurant operations, ensuring adherence to policies and standards, and striving for continuous improvement in guest and employee satisfaction. The Assistant Manager will analyze information, evaluate results, and solve problems to achieve departmental goals. This includes opening and closing shifts, managing supplies, and performing duties of other restaurant staff when necessary.

Human Resources and Team Development

A key aspect of this position is the development and supervision of the restaurant team. This includes communicating performance expectations, providing ongoing coaching and counseling, and implementing training initiatives. The Assistant Manager plays a crucial role in fostering a positive work environment and ensuring team members are equipped to deliver excellent service.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh. The role requires active participation on the floor during meal periods and high demand times, supporting the team and ensuring smooth operations. The Assistant Manager will interact with supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates through various communication channels.
