About CEER and the Role

CEER's Lighting Centre is dedicated to developing iconic lighting solutions for a new Saudi automotive brand, integrating advanced optics, robust electronics, and sophisticated design. As a Lead Specialist Exterior Lighting Center, you will be the end-to-end owner of a lighting commodity, guiding it from concept through design, development, simulation, tooling, and testing, up to launch and type-approval. This full-time position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and requires 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the knowledge holder for a key lighting commodity, such as headlamps or rearlamps, ensuring seamless integration with the vehicle's electrical and mechanical architecture.
• Collaborate with Vehicle Architecture and Design teams to assess the feasibility of design proposals and enable viable concepts with high aesthetic standards.
• Develop and manage integrated project plans, critical paths, risk reviews, and recovery actions, ensuring commodity timing plans support AMPCS milestone actions.
• Maintain open-issues lists, conduct daily and weekly triage, and provide concise status updates and decision-making calls.
• Translate styling and brand intent into detailed technical specifications (DSR/SER, ICDs, BOM, DVP&R), maintaining requirements traceability.
• Ensure robust design for manufacturing (DFM), optics and photometry targets, thermal paths, sealing/venting, EMC/ESD, and tolerance stacks, planning and assessing simulations before tooling commitment.
• Manage Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers, overseeing Statements of Work (SOW), RFQs, design reviews, and tooling kick-offs. Manage the commodity CAD package through supplier reviews for a robust virtual build process.
• Track tool design, T1/T2/T3 samples, mold-flow actions, process windows, and readiness for DV/PV builds.
• Support UN/ECE, FMVSS, and GSO approvals, ensuring correct type-approval allocation and markings (e-mark / DOT / GSO) and compliance with relevant market legislation.
• Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), deviations/concessions, and releases in PLM (Teamcenter/TLM), producing supporting documentation such as DFMEA, DVP, and sign-off reports.
• Support prototype, non-saleable, saleable, and pre-series builds, line trials, and work instructions, then facilitate handover to plant and Aftersales, investigating and resolving issues as they arise.
• Monitor technology trends to generate system proposals for future programs and provide technical assistance to Purchasing, TVM, Current Vehicle Engineering, and Production throughout the product lifecycle.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Proven experience as an automotive lighting engineer (OEM or Tier-1) with full program cycle ownership, specifically with front lamps, rear lamps, or interior lighting, and a willingness to rotate across commodities.
• Automotive experience in a commodity-delivery or project-management role.
• Engineering HNC/HND with extensive commodity-specific experience. An engineering degree (Optical/Lighting, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, or equivalent) is desirable.
• Working knowledge of lighting regulations and homologation, including type-approval allocation and markings (e-mark / DOT / CCC).
• Demonstrated supplier leadership from early concept through tooling, DV/PV, and into production.
• Exceptional time, project, and open-issues management skills, with the ability to manage large workloads and prioritize effectively in a high-pressure environment.
• Ability to lead and collaborate within teams, and to manage external suppliers.
• Strong engineering mindset, logical problem-solving abilities, and effective presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Working knowledge of industry tools and processes (FMEA, DVP, Six Sigma, PPAP) and PLM systems (Teamcenter/TLM), ClickUp, and MS Project or equivalent.
• Proficiency in CAD software such as NX (** and/or visualization software) for interrogating and developing CAD proposals.
• Proactive support for prototype builds, including the ability to analyze and validate supplier test data and develop recovery plans.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience with advanced lighting technologies such as ADB/matrix/pixel, OLED, or laser lighting.
• Proficiency in optical simulation/analysis software including LucidShape, SPEOS, LightTools, or Zemax, and MATLAB, with awareness of thermal/CFD.
• Manufacturing expertise in areas such as injection-molded optics/housings, vacuum metallization, coatings/AR, and sealing/venting.
• Familiarity with APQP/PPAP processes.
• Experience in a startup environment (0→1→N).
• Arabic language skills.

Work Environment and Travel

This role requires on-site presence in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Frequent travel to China is expected, with periods working directly at supplier sites to ensure timing adherence and facilitate issue resolution. Remote coordination with wider teams and labs will be necessary while working from China.
