Introduction to Mace and the Project

Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to deliver projects and redefine ambition. The company is a key delivery partner on one of the largest programmes in Saudi Arabia, located in Riyadh. This extensive mixed-use development includes major sports facilities, entertainment venues, arts complexes, and all associated infrastructure. Mace seeks high-calibre professionals to lead integrated teams throughout each phase of this significant project.

The Role: Senior Manager Risk Model and Hazard Log

Mace is seeking a Senior Manager Risk Model and Hazard Log for a full-time position. This role involves leading functional safety, hazard management, and railway risk modelling across the entire project portfolio. The successful candidate will work with multidisciplinary teams and supply chain partners to maintain a clear, portfolio-wide risk position, support regulatory compliance and technical approvals, and enable the safe transition of integrated transport assets from design through construction, commissioning, and operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement hazard and risk management strategies, plans, processes, and tools to support business unit safety objectives and secure timely technical approvals across the portfolio.
  • Define safety targets and acceptance criteria, maintain traceable and current hazard records, and report progress against verification and validation evidence. Ensure system safety risks are tolerable and reduced to as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP).
  • Review and challenge supplier hazard records, ensuring hazards are owned, controlled, evidenced, and accepted through the appropriate governance; escalate uncontrolled risks and support entry-into-service decisions.
  • Own risk records, models, reporting, and closure governance, maintaining visibility of residual risks and securing acceptance from the appropriate authorities.
  • Align safety activities, milestones, and analysis with project requirements, schedules, and recognised standards, including ISO 15288, EN 50126/29, and EN 50716.
  • Provide timely progress reporting to the Director, Safety Assurance against Hazard Management Plans and deliverables.
  • Support the Director, Safety Certification & Regulation in securing approvals from relevant authorities, including TGA, Civil Defense, and SASO.
  • Advise leadership and project teams on delivering safe, operable assets in line with safety procedures.
  • Lead and review hazard analysis using recognised specialist techniques and tools, including fault tree and bow-tie analysis.
  • Work collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.

Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline, with a focus on railway systems safety; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Recognised professional membership and Chartered Engineer status, or an equivalent internationally recognised professional registration.
  • 10-15 years’ relevant experience within land transport-related design, construction, and/or operations & maintenance programmes.
  • Significant experience in the development, implementation, and management of Hazard Logs, tools, techniques, and associated deliverables.
  • Middle East experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to meet necessary visa criteria for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and possess relevant work experience on high-valued projects/programmes for a project management consultancy business, as required for immigration and client approval.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • Detailed understanding of safety performance metrics and international benchmarks.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry-specific design, construction, and operation of railway assets, safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices (*, ISO61508, EN50126/29, EN50716).
  • Strong understanding of smart-city frameworks and sustainable design principles.
