SMP Supervisor

About the Role

Bechtel Corporation is seeking an SMP Supervisor for a full-time position in Saudi Arabia, specifically in Taif and Riyadh. This role involves monitoring and organizing subcontractor planning, safety, quality, and technical activities on a complex project with multiple stakeholders. The SMP Supervisor will coordinate and instruct subcontractor management staff to ensure operations align with established schedules and that work methods are planned and executed safely.

Project Overview: Ar Rjum Gold Project

The Ar Rjum Project is a greenfield gold project located approximately 200 km north-east of Taif towards Riyadh, and about 26 km South of Al Mouwayh. It encompasses three open-pit mining operations with associated waste dumps and ore stockpiles, a processing plant, tailings management facilities, and supporting infrastructure. This infrastructure includes water and power supply, maintenance facilities, offices, and both temporary and permanent accommodation villages.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise structural steel, mechanical equipment, piping, HVAC, and crane installation activities in accordance with project specifications, approved drawings, applicable codes, ITPs, method statements, and approved construction procedures.
• Supervise structural steel erection, including receiving, laydown, pre-assembly, erection sequencing, temporary stability, survey verification, and final installation of various structural components, ensuring compliance with dimensional and quality requirements.
• Lead installation, alignment, and commissioning support for static and rotating mechanical equipment such as crushers, mills, conveyors, pumps, and other mining and process plant equipment, ensuring compliance with OEM requirements and approved procedures.
• Supervise piping installation activities, including material control, spool installation, fit-up, supports, valves, flange management, tie-ins, field welding, testing, flushing, cleaning, reinstatement, and turnover readiness.
• Coordinate and supervise heavy lifting, rigging, and erection operations using various specialized lifting systems in accordance with approved lift plans and construction sequencing.
• Support installation, testing, balancing, and commissioning of HVAC systems, including AHUs, FCUs, ductwork, and associated mechanical equipment.
• Ensure preservation, protection, and integrity of structural steel, mechanical equipment, piping materials, and installed systems during storage, installation, construction, and pre-commissioning.
• Ensure compliance with project quality requirements, including inspection and test plans, hold and witness points, welding and NDE requirements, NCR resolution, punch list management, and turnover documentation.
• Coordinate with Engineering, QA/QC, Survey, HSE, Procurement, Materials, Vendors, Subcontractors, and Commissioning teams to resolve technical issues, manage interfaces, and achieve construction milestones.
• Monitor construction performance and productivity, including manpower, equipment utilization, material availability, installation sequencing, progress measurement, and development of short-term construction plans.
• Conduct field inspections and ensure implementation of ES&H requirements, including Permit-to-Work, lifting procedures, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), work-at-height, and confined-space entry.
• Maintain accurate construction records and reporting, including daily progress, manpower and equipment utilization, installed quantities, inspection and testing status, field constraints, subcontractor performance, and turnover readiness.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in a relevant field.
• Ability to perform extensive field inspections within active construction environments.
• Capable of walking long distances, climbing ladders and scaffolding, working at heights, and accessing confined spaces as required for inspection and construction activities.
• Ability to work in hot and humid climatic conditions typical of Middle East construction projects.
• Must be capable of using all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) associated with assigned construction activities.
