Anesthesiology Subspecialist at Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare
Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) is seeking an Anesthesiology Subspecialist to join their team in Dhahran. This full-time position involves administering anesthesia and managing patient care during various medical procedures.
Role Overview and Scope
The Anesthesiology Subspecialist will provide consultation and administer anesthesia using a comprehensive range of methods and techniques, particularly for subspecialty surgical and medical procedures. The role requires maintaining high professional performance standards in accordance with The Joint Commission and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Services are provided on a 24-hour basis. The incumbent may assist the Chief Anesthesiologist, and in their absence, may supervise the operational aspects of Anesthesia & Critical Care Services. Professional and administrative guidance is received through discussions with the Chief Anesthesiologist, ensuring adherence to JHAH and Department policies. Independent professional work is expected.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer anesthesia for general, specialty, and subspecialty surgical, obstetric, and medical procedures using the full spectrum of anesthetic agents, methods, and techniques.
- Observe operating room safety standards related to anesthetic agents and equipment.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to nursing staff, including orientation and training in new techniques and procedures for Anesthesia Services staff.
- Offer supervision and advice to Anesthesia Technicians.
- Interview patients scheduled for surgery to assess their condition, develop an anesthesia care plan, and address any fears or apprehension.
- Evaluate patients post-operatively to assess recovery from anesthesia, identify complications, and make recommendations.
- Provide adequate pain control management.
- Perform advanced hemodynamic monitoring for patients undergoing major surgical procedures.
- Conduct medical assessments and diagnoses, and provide respiratory and cardiovascular support to critically ill patients in Intensive Care and Step-Down Units.
- Assist the Chief Anesthesiologist as required, including supervision of the Recovery Room.
- Collaborate collegially and cooperatively with others in patient care, treatment, and service delivery, participating in inter-professional collaborative practice and education.
- Serve on JHAH committees and teams.
- Contribute to continuing education conferences within Anesthesia Services.
- Assume duties of the Chief Anesthesiologist as assigned.
- Stay current with new procedures and techniques in the field of Anesthesia.
- Perform on-call duties as assigned for emergency surgery, obstetrics, and/or medical procedures, which may require living in the hospital when on-call.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as directed by the Chief Anesthesiologist.
Qualifications and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited School of Medicine with an * or MBBS Degree.
- Completion of an accredited anesthesia residency program and eligibility for certification by the American Board of Anesthesiologists or the Royal College of Physicians/Surgeons of Canada.
- Completion of a Fellowship in a subspecialty of Anesthesia from an accredited program.
- Equivalent training and certification may be considered with concurrence from the Chief of Staff Medical Operations and the JHAH Executive Director.
- A current license to practice medicine in at least one * state or an equivalent license in the country of origin (if not a * citizen).
- Post-certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology or post ******** (or **** examination.
- A minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of experience in managing all types of anesthetic agents and techniques across all patient types and age groups.
Required Competencies
- Comprehensive knowledge of the safe use of all general anesthetic agents, techniques, and methods currently accepted in anesthesia practice.
- The ability to provide on-site assessment of personnel, equipment, and overall anesthesia services in the absence of the Chief Anesthesiologist.
Professional Interactions
Daily contact is expected with the Chief of Anesthesiology & Critical Care Services, Physicians, Nursing Staff, Operating Room Personnel, Patients, and their families in the execution of duties.
