About the Senior Well Engineer Role

SLB is seeking a qualified Senior Well Engineer to join our team in Dhahran, Eastern Saudi Arabia. This is a full-time position focused on ensuring the technical integrity and efficient execution of well operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and approve well proposals, Basis of Design documents, and comprehensive well programs.
  • Oversee the execution of well operations, ensuring adherence to technical integrity standards.
  • Review and approve critical operational procedures, including casing and cementing plans.
  • Coordinate effectively with clients, contractors, and various service companies.
  • Support the selection and evaluation processes for equipment and service providers.
  • Monitor daily operations, tracking time/depth, costs, and performance trends.
  • Approve well control briefings and manage changes through the Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Plan and forecast medium- and long-term operational requirements.
  • Verify invoices and provide support for project management activities.

Operational Oversight and Improvement

  • Ensure strict compliance with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards and company procedures.
  • Actively participate in risk management processes, Hazard Analysis and Risk Control (HARC), and incident investigations.
  • Lead performance reviews focused on improving drilling efficiency, measured by metrics such as feet per day and non-productive time (NPT).
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and effectively resolve recurring operational issues.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in drilling and well engineering operations.
  • Strong technical knowledge of well design principles, drilling operations, and well control techniques.
  • A valid Well Control certification at the Supervisor level (IWCF or IADC).
  • Demonstrated experience in cost control, Authority For Expenditure (AFE) management, and performance monitoring.
  • Proven experience in leadership roles and mentoring junior engineers.
  • A thorough understanding of HSE standards, risk management frameworks, and regulatory compliance.
  • The ability to manage complex projects, analyze operational performance data, and implement continuous improvement strategies.

This is a full-time position based in Dhahran, Eastern Saudi Arabia.
