About the Head of Practice Role

Al-Ghazzawi Holding Group is seeking a Head of Practice for AlGhazzawi & Partners. This is a senior legal position, equivalent to a partner, based in Jeddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The role combines legal excellence with a strong business-oriented personality, holding profit-and-loss ownership for a self-contained profit center within the firm. The Head of Practice is mandated to acquire, lead, and expand a portfolio of client relationships and matters to achieve agreed annual revenue targets.

Organizational Placement

The Head of Practice reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This role involves coordination with the Finance Manager on billing, collections, revenue forecasting, and overall practice financial performance. Operating alongside other P&L Leaders, the Head of Practice coordinates on shared resources, conflicts, and cross-referrals. They lead by assembling bespoke teams for each matter from the firm’s Shared Lawyers pool (senior associates, executive associates, associates, and trainees), acting as the supervising and decision-making lawyer. For mandates outside AlGhazzawi & Partners’ scope, the Head of Practice channels work to the firm’s designated international cooperation partner while retaining client relationship ownership.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and achieve a personal annual origination and revenue target agreed with the CEO.
• Identify, pursue, and convert new client relationships and mandates within the practice area.
• Act as the relationship lead for existing clients, serving as a trusted adviser to deepen relationships and generate repeat work.
• Lead pitches, proposals, fee negotiations, and set the commercial terms of each engagement.
• Drive cross-referral of work to other practices and the firm’s cooperation network, and capture inbound referrals.
• Take overall responsibility for the strategy, direction, and successful outcome of every matter in their portfolio.
• Assemble and direct matter teams from the Shared Lawyers pool, supervising execution and reviewing work product.
• Manage client expectations throughout, communicating proactively on progress, risk, cost, and commercial implications.
• Own the financial performance of the practice as a profit center, including revenue, billing, realization, and collections.
• Forecast pipeline and revenue, reporting performance against target to the CEO.
• Ensure all work meets the standard expected of a leading international firm and complies with Saudi law and ethical obligations.
• Manage conflicts of interest, client due diligence (KYC/AML), and matter-level risk.
• Mentor and develop assigned lawyers, contributing to recruitment, evaluation, and progression decisions within the practice.
• Contribute to the strategy and growth of the practice group and the firm, supporting firm-wide initiatives.

Performance Measures

Performance for this role is assessed against a balanced scorecard, with the headline measure being origination against the agreed annual target. Other key performance indicators (KPIs) include:

• Portfolio revenue and billings
• Realization rate, collections, and receivables
• Matter outcomes and win rate
• Client retention and repeat work
• Cross-sell and network referrals
• Profitability contribution
• Team direction and development
• Risk and compliance record

Authority and Decision Rights

Within firm policy and delegated thresholds set by the CEO, the Head of Practice is empowered to:

• Accept or decline new engagements within their practice area and agreed risk parameters.
• Set engagement scope, fee basis, and commercial terms.
• Select and direct the matter team from the Shared Lawyers pool.
• Approve work product and represent the firm to clients on the matter.
• Recommend write-offs, discounts, and billing arrangements within delegated limits.

Matters exceeding delegated thresholds, such as high-value or high-risk engagements, potential conflicts, and exceptions to firm policy, are escalated to the CEO.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this full-time position must possess over 10 years of relevant experience in the legal field. The role requires demonstrated legal excellence combined with a strong business-oriented personality and a proven track record in client origination, matter leadership, and managing a practice as a profit center.
