Rare diseases represent a high-growth therapeutic area with rapid innovation and significant unmet medical needs. This role focuses on bringing new therapies into clinical practice to positively impact patients' lives.

Role Overview

As a Medical Science Liaison – Rare Disease Neurology, you will join the Medical Affairs team in Jeddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position requires 2-5 years of experience. You will provide medical and scientific support to healthcare professionals (HCPs) regarding the use of medicines within AstraZeneca's rare disease portfolio, reporting to the Medical Manager Rare Disease.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and cultivate relationships with HCPs, including physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, pharmacists, and patient advocacy groups.
• Conduct educational programs on disease states and the appropriate use of medicines, aligned with Medical Affairs plans.
• Respond to customer inquiries by providing focused clinical and scientific information.
• Maintain expertise in disease state management, emerging therapies, and the therapeutic landscape.
• Gather customer insights to inform medical and commercial strategies, adhering to internal standards and regulatory requirements.
• Provide AstraZeneca with an understanding of the local medical community, clinical practice trends, and gaps in scientific knowledge.
• Share emerging data with HCPs in a scientific, objective, and balanced manner.
• Identify and develop scientifically based relationships with Key External Experts (KEEs) in the Saudi Arabia market.
• Work with HCPs on scientific activities such as clinical trials, Non-Interventional Studies, and Investigator Sponsored Studies (ISSs).
• Identify and train speakers for local events and provide recommendations for advisory board participants.
• Present scientific data to HCPs in both group and one-on-one settings.
• Develop scientific programs to explore unmet medical needs and provide actionable insights to internal stakeholders.
• Act as a scientific expert for internal stakeholders, continuously updating knowledge on therapeutic areas and compounds.
• Provide scientific support at AstraZeneca-sponsored educational events and monitor competitor knowledge.
• Serve as a medical resource for sales representatives, providing therapeutic area and product training.
• Respond to unsolicited requests for information about unapproved products or uses, ensuring objectivity and compliance with company policies.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, or Pharmacology.
• 3 or more years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent.
• Demonstrated expertise in synthesizing and effectively communicating scientific information to HCPs.
• Experience in rare disease therapeutic areas.
• Experience in Neurology’s rare diseases and/or critical care specialties is highly regarded.
• Direct patient care experience or equivalent experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

Required Skills

• Strong presentation skills for communicating medical data and concepts.
• Proficiency in computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Excellent project management ability.
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Jeddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia, within the Medical Affairs team. The role involves working with a diverse range of healthcare professionals and strategic partners in the rare disease field.
