About the Role

Thales Group is seeking a skilled Site Reliability Engineer with 5-10 years of experience to join their team in Al Khobar. This full-time position focuses on designing, operating, and securing regulated cloud environments, combining cloud operations, security engineering, and SRE practices.

Core Responsibilities

The Site Reliability Engineer will be instrumental in managing and maintaining the organization's Sovereign Cloud strategy across AWS and GCP, ensuring adherence to regulatory and data residency requirements. Key duties include the deployment, management, and operation of Kubernetes clusters, including upgrades, scaling, and workload optimization. The role also involves proactive security incident response, risk mitigation, and vulnerability management within cloud environments. A significant aspect of the position is driving security automation and enabling DevSecOps practices to embed security-by-design principles into cloud operations.

Technical Operations and Reliability

This role requires hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) for provisioning and securing cloud resources, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Git/GitLab for automated and secure deployments. Management of secrets and secure access using HashiCorp Vault is also a core responsibility. The engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting complex infrastructure, networking, container, and performance issues across distributed systems. Furthermore, the position emphasizes observability and reliability engineering, utilizing tools like Datadog for system monitoring, defining and managing SLIs/SLOs, and driving continuous reliability improvements aligned with SRE principles. Incident management, including 24x7 alerting, root cause analysis, and contribution to incident, problem, and change management processes, is essential.

Security and Compliance Focus

A strong focus will be placed on enhancing the organization's cloud security posture through continuous improvement and the implementation of security best practices. This includes conducting proactive system hardening, vulnerability remediation, performance tuning, and capacity planning. Automation using Python/Bash/Terraform/Ansible is expected to reduce manual effort, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen platform resilience. Experience in compliance-driven environments is highly valued.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess 5-10 years of relevant experience, with a minimum of 4-5 years in DevSecOps or SRE roles. Proven hands-on expertise in managing Kubernetes clusters is mandatory. Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), Git/GitLab for CI/CD, and HashiCorp Vault is required. A strong understanding of cloud security principles, including IAM, encryption, network security, container security, and vulnerability management, is essential. Experience with incident management, change management, and root cause analysis processes is necessary. Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, firewalls, VPNs, private endpoints) and experience in regulated environments are required. Proficiency in Linux, Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, and Google Cloud is mandatory. Cloud certifications are considered a plus.

Work Environment and Expectations

The role requires leading incident bridges during critical outages, coordinating cross-functional teams, and driving timely resolutions with clear root cause analysis. Candidates must maintain a strong customer and business-focused mindset while prioritizing tasks. This is a full-time position located in Al Khobar.
