Project Controls Engineer

About the Role

Jones Engineering Group is seeking an MEP Project Controls Engineer to join their team in Riyadh. This full-time role involves comprehensive responsibility for all site MEP planning and reporting requirements, encompassing both operational and commercial aspects. The position focuses on managing progress reporting, lookahead schedules, and Primavera program management.

Role Overview

The Project Controls Engineer will manage information flow across all project stakeholder departments to provide the leadership team with accurate project status updates. This requires close collaboration with project leads to ensure concise and precise reporting statistics are maintained at all times.

Key Responsibilities

• Report directly to the Project Manager during execution and the Pre-Construction Manager during tender phases.
• Support the Pre-Construction Manager and Estimating Team in tendering processes and prepare master programs (Primavera), including resource loading.
• Review and analyze construction programs from contractors against contractual requirements.
• Critique tender and pre-construction handover documentation, identifying project scheduling risks.
• Interface with the project management team and key stakeholders.
• Track daily progress and report planned vs. actual, identifying risks to critical path activities.
• Recommend strategies for project program acceleration.
• Monitor and report direct and indirect project manpower to align with resource projections.
• Provide reports for progress applications, delay notices, and other project control needs.
• Prepare 2-week and 4-week schedule lookaheads and 'Dropline' schedules to identify and mitigate delays.
• Manage the preparation of weekly and monthly progress reports and presentations for clients.
• Coordinate with stakeholders for risk assessments and delay mitigation plans.
• Ensure procurement, material, and submittal logs are created and kept up-to-date.
• Identify and track long lead items to expedite timely delivery.
• Coordinate cost reporting with the project QS and Project Manager.
• Identify claims for Extension of Time (EOT) and challenge subcontractor claims.
• Review and assess variation or change order claims from contractors or clients.
• Ensure all project execution issues are reported and addressed.
• Arrange and manage planning workshops/meetings, recording minutes.
• Prepare and distribute regular weekly and monthly reports, including escalation reports.
• Provide support during project closeout, including final cost reporting.
• Offer scheduling support to Construction Managers to ensure installation meets the program.
• Ensure all deliverables (MRs, RFQs, Shop Drawings, MIRs) align with the project program.
• Monitor progress of document control, red-line, and as-built drawings.
• Ensure project deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to satisfaction.
• Escalate scheduling issues that may affect the project program.
• Supervise, develop, and mentor project staff.
• Perform Earned Value Analysis, productivity analysis, and progress/labor package monitoring.
• Conduct window-analysis and float path analysis on program updates, advising the leadership team weekly.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of experience with MEP building services contractors.
• Demonstrated data center MEP construction experience is mandatory.
• Minimum of 3 years of GCC experience is preferred.
• Ability to independently manage a data center project.
