About BAE Systems Saudi Arabia and the Role

BAE Systems Saudi Arabia serves as the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor, providing essential equipment, support, and training to Saudi Arabia under established Government-to-Government arrangements. This includes the vital maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and comprehensive training for RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel. The company is committed to supporting the Saudi Arabian National Agenda, focusing on Saudisation and the development of Saudi National capabilities through partnerships and industrialisation. We are seeking an Avionics Maintenance Supervisor to join our team in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, for a full-time position requiring 5-10 years of experience.

Role Overview and Environment

This high-profile role operates within a demanding environment, playing a critical part in ensuring aircraft readiness for the RSAF customer. The Avionics Maintenance Supervisor will interface with various internal and external departments, including Supply, Workshops, Quality, Product Safety, and MODSAP. The position requires a balance between leading the resolution of complex engineering issues and effective team management, ensuring adherence to applicable rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide First Stage/Mandatory and Independent certification of completed maintenance tasks, including Red-X clearance.
  • Plan and coordinate scheduled maintenance activities on and off aircraft to meet programme and RSAF operational requirements.
  • Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with approved data, standards, and procedures detailed within the Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE).
  • Prioritise tasks based on shop and aircraft schedules, providing daily progress updates via IT-based applications and verbal briefs.
  • Highlight any issues likely to impact the aircraft programme to the Team Leader or Maintenance Manager.
  • Manage team performance, address disciplinary matters, and ensure personnel possess the necessary knowledge and skills.
  • Provide direct supervision to maintain quality standards and ensure strict tool control procedures are followed.
  • Investigate and report on technical issues, as well as accident and incident events.
  • Plan shift patterns for effective manpower utilisation and manage sickness and absence according to local policy.
  • Prepare for and cooperate with all internal and external audits, ensuring sound maintenance practices and documentation.
  • Provide on-the-job theory and practical training, assess team competency, and certify personnel for specific tasks as a ‘Work Place Trainer’.
  • Ensure accurate and timely demands for replacement components/parts, monitoring forecast dates and highlighting critical demands.
  • Confirm availability of serviceable and calibrated test equipment for planned tasks, informing the Operations Team Leader of any deficiencies.
  • Establish and maintain positive relations with internal and external customers of Technical Support Services (TSS).
  • Supervise aircraft towing teams and ensure accurate information flow within the designated area of responsibility.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A recognised qualification to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC level in a relevant technical discipline, or a technical apprenticeship, or a suitable equivalent technical qualification acceptable to M&CA.
  • Extensive post-qualification practical maintenance experience within an operational flying aircraft environment.
  • Demonstrated experience or formal recorded workplace applied training on Tornado Avionics/Electrical system testing.
  • Relevant type training (‘Q’ Course) and equipment-specific training, if required.

Essential Skills and Professional Requirements

  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to supervise engineering personnel at all levels.
  • The successful candidate, whether Saudi or Expatriate, must obtain Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) membership at the appropriate level prior to commencing employment in KSA and maintain it throughout the role.
  • Holds a 2nd signature certification.
