Chief Chemist

About the Role

Acwa China is seeking a Chief Chemist to join their team in Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves overseeing and ensuring that all plant chemistry parameters are maintained within specified limits. The Chief Chemist will also be responsible for environmental compliance and laboratory activities, ensuring they align with regulatory requirements, procedures, schedules, cost budgets, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Comply with all safety rules and regulations and maintain full awareness of plant safety hazards.
• Familiarize with regulatory requirements for environmental compliance, chemical usage, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), Plant & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and emergency operation procedures.
• Ensure all records related to plant chemistry are maintained accurately.
• Oversee activities to ensure they meet established standards without risk to personnel, equipment, or the environment.
• Plan effectively to ensure the availability of all chemicals, dosing, and testing equipment.
• Manage annual and preventive maintenance for dosing and testing equipment.
• Review and approve plans, procedures, and schedules for plant chemistry operations, including acid cleaning and boil-out.
• Prepare reports and provide recommendations to the Operations Manager for any modifications to the chemistry regime.
• Supervise, direct, and coordinate the activities of all personnel assigned to the Chemical Section.
• Ensure the availability of bulk chemicals, fine chemicals, glassware, and other consumables, raising Purchase Requisitions as needed.
• Confirm the availability of MSDS for all chemicals used.
• Ensure the calibration of all laboratory equipment.
• Oversee regular measurement of water quality in the lab and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
• Monitor and report on stack emissions.
• Ensure proper waste disposal measures are implemented.
• Provide on-the-job training to new employees and evaluate their performance.
• Perform other assigned duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in chemistry and plant operations.
