Bupa Arabia is seeking a dedicated Consultant Family Medicine & Diabetology to join its team in Saudi Arabia. This is a full-time position focused on delivering comprehensive medical care within a telemedicine setting.

Role Overview

The Consultant Family Medicine & Diabetology provides comprehensive medical care to adult and pediatric patients through telemedicine, with a primary focus on diabetology within the broader scope of family medicine. This role involves leading the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of diabetes and related metabolic disorders, alongside a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions. The consultant will deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care through multidisciplinary collaboration, emphasizing prevention, early intervention, chronic disease optimization, and continuity of care. The position also applies population health and value-based care principles to improve clinical outcomes, enhance patient experience, and optimize healthcare resource utilization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive telemedicine care, including virtual assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for diabetes, metabolic disorders, and other acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Conduct thorough clinical evaluations, including medical history, virtual physical assessment, medication review, diabetes risk assessment, and interpretation of diagnostic findings.
  • Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based management plans, encompassing glycemic optimization, medication management, lifestyle modification, preventive care, and specialist referrals.
  • Manage patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, obesity, and other metabolic conditions, focusing on preventing, identifying, and managing related complications and comorbidities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including endocrinologists, dietitians, diabetes educators, pharmacists, and primary care providers, to ensure coordinated patient-centered care.
  • Utilize digital health technologies, such as remote patient monitoring and telemedicine platforms, to provide high-quality virtual care while maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Promote preventive care, chronic disease management, population health, and value-based care initiatives to improve glycemic control, reduce diabetes-related complications, and enhance patient outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing clear explanations of diagnoses, treatment options, and follow-up care, while maintaining empathy and understanding.
  • Maintain compliance with all patient safety standards, report risks, and practice safe medicine to prevent patient harm.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Adhere to all relevant medical regulations, ethical guidelines, and quality assurance standards pertinent to telehealth practice.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research activities, and clinical audits to enhance patient care and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with compliance officers to ensure all practices meet regulatory standards and prepare reports for audits and inspections.
  • Stay updated on changes in healthcare regulations and implement necessary adjustments to practice.

Professional Development and Platform Proficiency

  • Continuously enhance professional knowledge and skills in family medicine with a focus on diabetology, both in-person and telehealth best practices.
  • Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and online courses to stay abreast of the latest advancements in diabetology and telehealth technology.
  • Maintain proficiency in utilizing the designated telehealth platform, including video conferencing, secure messaging, and electronic health records (EHR) integration.
  • Actively participate in training programs and stay updated on platform enhancements and best practices.
  • Collaborate with IT support to troubleshoot any technical issues related to the telehealth platform.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Medical degree (MBBS, MD or equivalent) from an accredited medical school.
  • Residency training in Family Medicine from an accredited program.
  • Board certification in Family Medicine.
  • Fellowship certification in Diabetology.
  • Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) classification and registration as Family Medicine-Diabetology Consultant.
  • Proven experience of 5-10 years as a Family Medicine Diabetology Consultant or similar role, preferably in a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Experience in practicing population health management and value-based care approaches.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying abreast of the latest advancements in family medicine with a focus on diabetology, population health management, and value-based care.
