About the Director of Engineering Role

Sheraton Hotels & Resorts is seeking a Director of Engineering to oversee property maintenance and physical plant operations in Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah, specifically in Medina. This full-time position requires a professional with extensive knowledge of property maintenance, safety, security, and asset protection, responsible for managing multiple buildings and grounds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a high level of property maintenance knowledge, with overall responsibility for maintaining buildings, grounds, and the physical plant, focusing on safety, security, and asset protection.
  • Manage budgets, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance programs, and energy conservation initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to deliver products and services that meet or exceed guest and employee expectations while maximizing financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the emergency response team for all facility-related issues.
  • Oversee the management of the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Administer service contracts to support property needs and ensure fire crew has a complete understanding of all procedures, equipment, and alarms.
  • Coach and support the engineering leadership team in effectively managing controllable expenses.
  • Develop an engineering operating strategy aligned with the property and brand's business strategy, and manage Engineering budgets.
  • Oversee the execution of long-term preventative maintenance and asset protection plans.
  • Supervise construction projects to ensure timely completion within budgetary guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with state, local, and federal regulations, and maintain property life safety systems.
  • Ensure building and equipment licenses, permits, and certifications are current.
  • Manage departmental operations to budget by reviewing operating statements, budget worksheets, and payroll progress reports.
  • Monitor and manage the payroll function and controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
  • Participate in the development of capital expenditure goals and manage projects as needed.
  • Prepare weekly and period-end P&L critiques and understand the impact of departmental operations on overall property financial goals.
  • Ensure employees are treated fairly and equitably, and that disciplinary procedures are followed.
  • Utilize employee feedback and an open-door policy to address concerns and ensure regular communication regarding daily operations and business objectives.
  • Resolve guest problems and complaints, and bring issues to the attention of Human Resources as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess 5-10 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related professional area. Specific educational requirements include either:

  • A high school diploma or GED, with 6 years of relevant experience and technical training in HVAC-R/Electrical/Plumbing.
  • A 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related major, with 4 years of relevant experience and technical training in HVAC-R/Electrical/Plumbing.

Work Location and Type

This is a full-time position located in Medina, Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah region.
