About the Director of Finance & Accounting Role

Sheraton Hotels & Resorts is seeking a strategic financial leader to join our team as Director of Finance & Accounting. This full-time position is based in Medina, within the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. The role requires a professional with 2-5 years of experience to serve as the property's primary financial business strategist, driving profitability and operational excellence.

Strategic Financial Leadership

As the property's strategic financial business leader, you will champion and implement property-wide strategies to meet or exceed brand and customer expectations. This role is crucial for maximizing return on investment by providing financial expertise to support brand initiatives. You will create and execute a business plan aligned with the property and brand's strategic direction, focusing on financial and accounting activities to achieve desirable financial results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies to improve profit, estimate costs and benefits, and explore new business opportunities.
  • Analyze financial information, forecast sales against expenses, and create annual budget plans.
  • Monitor actual sales against projected sales and analyze budget variances for efficient planning.
  • Identify underlying principles and reasons within financial data and break down complex information.
  • Develop and implement new business plans that align with property and brand strategies.
  • Create the annual operating budget and provide analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Implement and maintain appropriate controls to manage business risks and ensure a strong accounting and operational control environment.
  • Analyze financial data and market trends to inform strategic decisions.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive annual business plan aligned with company and brand strategy.
  • Provide ongoing analytical support by monitoring operating department sales and producing accurate forecasts.
  • Oversee internal, external, and regulatory audit processes.
  • Manage communication with owners, understanding their priorities and strategic focus.
  • Manage property working capital and cash flow in accordance with brand SOPs and owner requirements.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of Profits and Losses and monitor all applicable taxes.
  • Submit reports in a timely manner and ensure compliance with management contracts and reporting requirements.
  • Reconcile balance sheets and ensure the P&L is accurate.
  • Ensure compliance with standard and local operating procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A 4-year bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting or a related major, with 2 years of experience in finance, accounting, or a related professional area.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree in Finance and Accounting or a related major with no work experience required.

Leadership and Team Management

This role involves leading and influencing others through strong interpersonal and communication skills, advocating for sound financial and business decision-making, and demonstrating integrity. You will communicate strategic goals clearly to subordinates and leverage functional leadership to influence the executive team and property strategies. Providing excellent leadership includes assigning clear accountability and conducting annual performance appraisals for direct reports.

Human Resources and Development

You will ensure team members are cross-trained for successful daily operations and that property policies are administered fairly. This includes overseeing the orientation and training of new hires and creating development plans based on individual strengths, development needs, and career aspirations. Participation in hiring activities as appropriate is also expected.
