Wound Care Nurse

About the Role

Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib (HMG) is seeking a Wound Care Nurse to provide comprehensive wound care to patients using evidence-based practices. This full-time role involves assessing, observing, and ensuring a safe standard of patient care, along with evaluating its results. The nurse will also educate patients, families, and staff on wound management and prevention.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform wound assessment, reassessment, and management for all patient populations, including neonates, pediatric, geriatric, and general adult patients, in accordance with policy.
• Assess the learning needs of nursing staff and collaborate with the Head Nurse Nursing Education to enhance knowledge regarding ulcer prevention and management.
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of wound assessment and staging systems, and apply principles of growth and development for age-appropriate care.
• Establish and update standards of care, competencies, policies, and procedures for the wound care program, including patient care protocols and documentation tools.
• Provide training and support in best updated nursing practices for wound care.
• Assist Head/In-charge Nurses in identifying needs for practice changes based on available wound care materials and implement required changes in line with HMG standards.
• Monitor hospital-acquired pressure rates and lead the team in conducting quarterly Pressure Ulcer Prevalence Surveys.
• Consult with other healthcare professionals/departments to ensure an interdisciplinary approach tailored to patient needs.
• Revise patient care plans based on treatment response and evaluate overall effectiveness.
• Monitor compliance with wound care policy and participate in the education and evaluation of new products, equipment, and technologies.
• Provide patient, family, and staff education on wound management, pressure ulcer prevention, support surfaces, dressing selection, and other therapies.
• Offer basic wound care training and orientation to newly hired nursing staff.
• Report unsafe practices, professional incompetence, misconduct, or unfitness to practice through appropriate channels.
• Formulate teaching plans for staff based on identified learning needs and evaluate their effectiveness.
• Participate in person-centered care initiatives and enrich patient experience with compassion, respect, and dignity.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in wound care is required.
• Demonstrated professional and educational ethics related to medical practice and patient confidentiality.
• Ability to provide constructive feedback to healthcare team members in a timely manner.
• Participation in relevant education programs, in-services, and workshops to enhance professional competency.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position within Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib (HMG), where the Wound Care Nurse will act as a resource person for physicians, the wound team, and clinical staff. The role involves active participation in the organization's performance improvement plan.
