Port Captain

About the Role

DP World is seeking a Port Captain to join their team in Al Khobar, Eastern Region. This full-time role involves overseeing vessel operations, crew management, and ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards. The Port Captain will act as a crucial link between vessel crews and office staff, promoting efficient and safe maritime operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage vessel budgets for food provisions and housekeeping purchases.
• Maintain positive communication between vessel and office staff, promoting the safety and well-being of seafaring personnel and property.
• Conduct technical interviews for deck officer candidates and select suitable crew for assigned vessels.
• Brief Masters, Officers, and crew on their roles, responsibilities, and company expectations before vessel assignments.
• Liaise with the Personnel Department regarding travel, crew changes, and other personnel issues, monitoring crew overlap days.
• Review and ensure timely submission of vessel Deck and Catering requisitions to maintain efficient and economical inventory.
• Coordinate with Purchasing for timely delivery of supplies, tracking and expediting purchase requisitions, and escalating potential operational disruptions.
• Monitor bridge team performance and complete regular performance appraisals for Captains.
• Identify high-potential candidates or underperforming crew to the Fleet Superintendent for competence and performance management.
• Ensure appropriate hand-over and familiarization for all joining ship staff.
• Oversee the general wellness and welfare of the crew.
• Conduct monthly on-board inspections, covering the ship’s hull, cargo spaces, deck machinery, and safety equipment.
• Be present on board vessels for offshore operations when special requirements arise.
• Liaise with the Operations Department and Vessel Master regarding certification, safety equipment, and loose lifting gear.
• Prepare vessel repair specifications in collaboration with the Engineering Superintendent/Port Engineer.
• Ensure adherence to IMCA guidelines and best industry practices for vessel DP operations, equipment, and personnel.
• Maintain the fleet’s DP and navigational equipment in a fully operational state of readiness.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this position should possess 5-10 years of relevant experience in maritime operations or a similar field. A strong understanding of vessel management, crew welfare, and operational safety protocols is essential.
